Default Crashing Rebooting BSOD and a partridge in a pear tree

OK, geeks at the ready, i'm going to throw everything at you regarding my problem.

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM TD?

Since i had a new motherboard put into my PC, i've had nothing but crashes.

Sometimes the computer reboots without warning, sometimes it locks-up then reboots, sometimes the game and sound hang up without rebooting, other times the graphics just scramble.
Most of the time, the screen goes black and i can sometimes lose sound too. If i'm lucky my card can recover from it and kick in again.
The most common problem is the sound hangs, everythng freezes then the system reboots, often with a driver error report.

During play, i get tiny patches of bad graphics flickering on the screen, like it's snowing, or black lines zig-zagging for a millisecond.
Sometimes when i kill a creature, a loud thumping sound, like a drum, is left in the place where it died. This sound stays there for the duration that i'm in the zone and i can visit the sound later.

Occasionally i can play for an hour without a crash, but usually i can't make it past the character screen these days.

Windows errors mention either a driver problem, a stop error, a device driver error or an unknown or rare error which gives me a corrupted error report.
I've also had 4 blue screens of death which kinda worry me.

On two occasions, my monitor has turned off with the message "Input signal out of range", usually it just says "Going to sleep".

OK TD, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

I've reinstalled my mobo drivers, graphic drivers, sound drivers, GW itself, directx, older drivers and omega drivers.
I've ran anti-virus, defrags, adaware, stress tests, live onecare.
I've disabled sound, unused hardware, firewalls, antivirus and uninstalled sp2 which i later replaced.
My PC had a little dust but that's gone now and i have tried a big-ass fan with my cover off.

I've tweaked everything regarding virtual memory, graphics/sound acceleration, game settings, but nothing made an improvement.

Seems to crash more in factions than nightfall or prophecies, with prophecies being the best.

I recently installed my motherboards probe thingy to measure temperature and things.
This is my voltage thing, whatever it's called....

My 12v is dropping down to as low as 11.5 so my first question would be, is that normal?
Temperature and fan RPM is brilliant. Even i know that's fine
I'd run a ram test too but i currently have no discs.

ANYTHING ELSE TD?

Aye, here's my dxdiag with a couple of crash reports at the bottom of it.

(and i had some screen flickering during previous dxdiag tests)

CAUSE
This issue might occur if the display driver is caught in an infinite loop while it waits for the video hardware to become idle. This issue typically indicates a problem with the video hardware or that the display driver cannot program the hardware correctly.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain and install the most current driver for your video adapter, or replace your video card.

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshoot tab.
3. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and then click to clear the Enable Write Combining check box.
4. Click OK, and then click OK.

Note This procedure prevents the display driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but you may lose some display functionality and performance. Although you can increase the hardware acceleration settings higher than None to regain functionality and performance, these settings increase the chance that the issue will occur again. For maximum stability, leave hardware acceleration off.

MORE INFORMATION
The Stop error message may also occur in video adapter drivers that do not represent a physical device. For example, this Stop error message may occur in the virtual video adapter driver that is used by Symantec PCAnywhere. If PCAnywhere is installed on a computer where this error message occurs, visit the Symantec Web site to determine if there are any available fixes for your version of PCAnywhere.

OUCH TACTICAL, THAT HURT MY EYES!

OK guys, if you're still with me, any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to know what has been making my gaming so miserable. I've had just one thirty minute period over the last 4 days in which i haven't had a reboot apart from when the game is minimised and i'm having some food.

My own limited experience and surveying previous threads leads me to suspect a power or memory problem, or perhaps even incompatiblity between my mobo and graphics card.
I've barked up so many trees trying to find the answer, that my brain hurts.

I played prohecies with no problem but got this poopy Asus mobo during a break from GW, and upon returning, all hell broke loose.

I'd love to reformat my pc using my preinstalled xp on my second drive but last time i did that, i had no idea how to reinstall the mobo and i had to get my girlfriends uncle to sort it out.
*Bad configuration FTL*

So in short, if i can't be pointed in the right direction to sort out the crashing, how would i go about reformatting and installing that motherboard again?

If there's any more info that i have missed out or you have any questions, just throw them at me and i'll check on this thread again soon.

Cheers guys

We do need to know the motherboard make but I will wing without it for now. Driver errors can be caused by a number of things. First is a corrupted install. The only fix for a corrupted install is to use a program to totaly wipe your hard drive of all data. Wipe Drive does an exelcelent job. Second Reinstall windows from the Windows install disc. Next is motherboard drivers then video and any other drivers that you need.
Is this a preconfigured computer or one that you made for yourself. that can help in the trouble shooting also.
If this is a preconfigured computer then you may be out of luck on the Windows install disc as you will have a restore disc instead, which will not reinstall onto a non manufacturer mobo.

The motherboard is an Asus P5GPL-X SE and the computer was purchased ready made from a shop, with the restore ability being on the second drive unfortunately.

I sooo wish i knew how to install a non-original mobo after a wipe, or else i'd have wiped this PC clean i tell ya!

Thanks MegaMouse.

Sheesh, this brings back bad memories.

Looks a lot like the infamous Nvidia "infinite loop" BSOD ("nv4_disp driver was apparently caught in an infinite loop" blah blah). Except that you are running a ATI Radeon vid card....strange.

I have to say that in the case of the Nvidia infinite loop BSOD, a clean install of the device driver will not generally resolve the problem. I hope you have better luck with your Radeon....

However, since you started to experience this problem after installing a new motherboard, I am inclined to wonder if the problem is not a physical defect in the mb itself....

A bad motherboard did cross my mind but i have ran other games with no problem.
Company of heroes, half life 2, doom 3, world of warcraft, all the command and conquer titles and....worms world party! lol.

So the power on the 12V dropping to 11.5V isn't an issue? I'd just like to eliminate that.
Easyg, what was the cure for the nvidia infinite loop, do you remember?

I have to say a drop to 11.5v on the 12v rail would worry me, although it may not be the cause, it is a possibility.

sadly i'm at work currently, but will try to add some advice on fixes when I get home.

Microsoft's workaround can be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293078/EN-US/

To tell the truth, I never was able to really solve the problem. This more than a year ago, and the affected system was set up like this:

Chipset - Intel 1945G/P
CPU - Pentium D 3.0G
Memory - 4 x 512MB 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Video card - Nvidia Geforce 6800 GPU (brand: EVGA)

I had all the sympton you have, and also like you I only got the BSODs when playing certain MMOs, and usually when entering certain highly populated areas.

I tried everything, including replacing the moboard once, and the VGA twice. Clean installs of the display driver did not help. Hacked drivers found on the internet did not resolve the problem either.

In the end, I wasn't able to find a solution that permanently fixed the BSODs. So I ended up migrating to ATI Radeon gpu, which was stable for me.

I tried that before but i can't even connect to Arenanet. It gives some 3D error message.

What i don't understand is that i can stress test the PC to the max, run several apps at once, and throw in a DvD too, yet it still runs fine.
Soon as GW loads up it all turns sour.

There's a fan on my power unit which has some dust on it. The fan is spinning and the air being blown out is a bit warm but i can't get inside the box to remove the dust.
I took the psu out last night but looking at the metal casing on it, i could see i'd probably risk killing myself or my unit if i prized that thing open.
(i remember doing the same thing with my microwave, and had to keep the metal case closed using string, to avoid microwaving everyone in the kitchen, lol).
However, when i place the desktop fan there, the air comes through nice and cool. So i don't know.

Scratching my head now. Suppose i'll just have to wait until my gf's uncle can take a look at it, perhaps monday.

After I had some serious problems with my laptop I used this program http://www.drivershq.com/home.aspx?a...tedrivers&bn=5 it will automatically detect which drivers you are using & if they are outdated.

It solved some of my problems & might work for you.

You know what's weird is that in the end, I started to get RSODs. I guess RSODs are a pretty common sight in Vista, but this was XP Pro! I was so amazed I took a picture

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure it was Guild Wars that caused this RSOD....

Cool, a red one. I wonder what other colours they do.

Update on my problem**

I downloaded a cool little program called Powerstrip. It's like a really advanced catalyst program and i had no idea how to use it or where to start, but i left the general settings as default.

I noticed two little vertical sliders which have something to do with power and i said to myself "sod it" and i slid them all the way to the bottom and ran Guild Wars.
I noticed an immediate difference ingame. I have no dodgy pixels snowing on my screen and i haven't had a crash for half an hour....non since installing powerstrip.
I'll update you in a few hours to let you know how things are going. For the first time in ages, i was actually excited to get a white drop and some gold coins

Edit/update*** It seems my crashing problem has been eliminated. Three cheers for Powerstrip.
