Default Insanely High Ping

Hello
I have been experiencing a horribly high ping (1500ms+++) for the past couple of days, making any form of guildwars unplayable.
My ping on everything else is normal (150 on vent, 160 on google) and my internet seems to be working fine.
I haven't tried anything serious yet, and I assumed that it was just the increase in players during the wintersday event, but I am starting to feel that it could be something worse.
I am lagging and rubberbanding (WASD and mouse clicks) all over the place in game, be it guild hall or isle of the nameless. Everytime I activate a skill, the skill is used about 5 seconds later.

Specs:
Code:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professtional (5.1, Build 2600)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: INTEL_
System Model: D915GEV_
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1022MB RAM
Page File: 391MB used, 2056MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 Unicode
Graphics card is a RADEON X300/X550 Series

Any advice and tips will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

if you're from Asia, that is probably the cause of your high ping.

I doubt the hardware specifications would affect your ping, since that's the time it takes for communication between your computer and the server. It's definitely not a graphics card problem, at least.

The only thing I can think of is that either your ISP is having problems (perhaps having to reroute you through a longer path due to something happening), or there is an issue with the Guild Wars server you connect to causing this delay. Either way, I can't think of anything you personally could do except wait it out.

Of course, there are the basic questions, did you change anything on your computer between the last time it was working properly and when it began to malfunction? Downloaded any files? Messed with some hardware? There's always the possibility of a virus, spyware, or other forms of malware on your computer, so run a thorough scan with several programs. I recommend AVG and Spybot, personally.

Just run a basic check if you haven't already, and see if you've done anything recently that could be the cause of this.

Just ran a trace route to the guildwars I.P. on their website and got 11 hops. Probably linked to the earthquake
And yes, I am in Asia. Can't believe I didn't think of that before.
Anyone know when things are going to get back to normal?

Also I posted my PC specs because the sticky said so

I have a 3mbit internet connection and all games I play have a ping around 20 up to 120 in bad times. When I play GW in PvE areas to farm, quest or mission, my ping is mostly below 250, which is still quite high compared to another games, but well maybe it's sending over data of killing mobs or something. Anyways, when I go in big cities or outposts, my ping raises up to 500 or even 1500/2000, and tha's insane high. My question, what causes this high ping? i never experienced such a high ping in any games I ever have played, it's just insane how high it is, and even in PvP I experience this which is really anoying when activating skills or monitoring the enemy while fighting.

Now 1 thing I remember is that before Factions came out, the lag was ways less then when Factions went online, and since then it never has been the same.

I run a T1 line and to servers in the UK, my times are in the high 90s. I have experianced pings from GW as high as 18,320 ms and return to play. TG for the NEW reconnect feature.

I don't know where the GW servers are, but it needs to be fixed!

Might not be A.Net's fault. Check your ISP.

Default ping times

i have the same issues, but i am finding out it is a 2 fold situation, one my ISP (comcast) has a hardware issue and its been this way for a week, but GW has been very laggy and high pings before my ping issue with my ISP occured. i am just sharing this to hopefully help others. try looking at your ISP first, then look at the game. BTW, the game is nearly unplayable right now for me, i hope things level off once the festival is over and my ISP finally decides to fix something.

>>>> update, well the comcast service finally committed suicide last nite and i am posting from work. now hopefully they will fix the issue and i can back to gaming. 1-10-07
