So, I've been having a lot of problems with my USB devices. Specifically, there's some kind of conflict that the system doesn't seem to see.

So, normally I've got 3 devices plugged into my USB, and these seem to work with no issues that I can see (unless I'm blind, which could very well be): a Cannon scanner, a Lynksis wireless-G adapter, and a card reader (this one is physically attached, and is part of my floppy disk drive). All of these seem to want to run on the same hub within my computer. Not a problem, that hub says it can take their power wants and then some (total 6 ports on that hub, and says no more than 500mA per port, but I've determined that the power is not the issue here).

Now, I've got a handful of other USB devices. A Wacom tablet, and a pair of USB Storage keys. When I plug in the tablet, it goes to a totally different hub, and doesn't seem to cause any problems. Ok, that's cool. But, if I plug in either of the USB keys, I lose my network adapter. Which is a pain.

So, I try unplugging the scanner (which takes 500mA, the limit on any port within that hub) thinking that it's just soaking up too much power or some such. Nuh uh. With that device unplugged, I still lose my network adapter to the USB keys, either one of them.

I'm starting to lose it with this problem, which has been a problem for a long time on this computer (mobo specs can be found here). Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? I could REALLY use some advice on this one.

Hmm, maybe something with the flash drives, try formating them (WILL delete your data, so don't be stupid). That's all I can think of atm. Even though this has nothing to do with GW, still happy to try to help

Just a long shot, but if you go into 'Device manager', right-click on USB Root Hub then select 'Properties'. Then you'll see tabs across the top of the dialogue box, click on 'Power Managment' and make sure that the box labelled 'Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power' isn't ticked.

If it is, then untick it and hit OK. Then rinse and repeat with the other USB Root Hub entries.

Like I said, it's a long shot but hey anything's worth a go.

I was having some problems with USB devices a while back, but it turned out to be the USB 2.0 drivers that were issued with the motherboard I was using. Having updated the drivers, my system runs perfectly again. So, might wanna check if there's any updated drivers if you're using USB 2.0.
