hey,

i just got a new pc (w00t) no software on it tho its clean, now i was wondering if i install vista the home premium or w/e the name is will gw run smoothly on it? got a gforce 7300+ 256 mb gfx card in it

It will run smoother the more RAM you have and the faster your CPU is, Vista hogs RAM but anything above 1024 would be fine, Assuming your CPU clocks above 2.1GHZ that is

The GeForce 7300 will run GW just fine but don't expect a good framerate with all the effects enabled since it's kinda a low end video card. As for vista, i agree with darko, the more ram you have the better, if you have 512mb, don't go with vista 1GB or higher is fine.

Lol, I run a base 6800 with all the bells and whistles, and except for very full outposts / cities, not a problem (and even those problems only last a couple of seconds while the computer does the initial math). A 7300 should be fine.

I'm not saying the 7300 will not be fine, what i am saying is that the second number being a 3, it will give a lesser performance than a card with 6,8 or 9 as second number even if the card is a generation older. For example, on a GeForce 6600 128mb, i get around 30fps more than with a 7300 256mb (friend's computer) even if the computer with the 7300 has more ram and a better processor.

A 6800 range card is about 2 or maybe even 3 times faster than the 7300, just because it say 7xxx does not necessarily mean it's faster.

The card will play at a decent resolution of say 1024 x 768 with no anti-aliasing or anistrophic filtering enabled.

Right. When you're comparing the GeForce 6XXX series and the 7XXX series it's the second number that really tells you how powerful the GPU is. For example, a 6800GT is a bit faster than a 7600GT. Of course a 7800 is faster than a 6800. In general, if the second number is the same and the suffix is the same (GT, GS, XT, etc.), the 7XXX series GPU is faster. The 7XXX series is also capable of rendering more of the newer DX9 eye candy than the 6XXX series is.

Enlightened, I am using GF 6600 atm and it runs fine within most situations. Although I do experience slow-downs since NF came out.
