Exclamation How are your pings in the UK?

Just a quick question.

The last couple of days playing GW has been near impossible thanks to lag and crappy pings. It's that bad the game can freeze for something like 10 seconds and then spring back into life. The little dot thing is near always red or orange. So, before I start to rip my PC to bits or getting on the phone to my ISP I wondered if anyone else was having problems.

This is not just at peak times. I've just had it now at 11am GMT. Is it the GW servers or just me?

Cheers.

BTW > I'm a PC engineer so I know what is and what's not running on my comp. There is no spyware/viruses etc. This is either GW, my ISP or my hub. It's not software related.

Lag has been really bad for us as well, a lot worst when we in HA. Really high ping in most of the HA map, a bit better in pve map, still playable but with a lot spike lag sadly. Been like this for a week or so.

Manchester here as well.

Your ISP BT by any chance?

I'm glad you have it too (I know that don't sound nice but it means the prob is more than likely not at my end). If you are with BT I might give them a bell and see what they say (although the Indian "technicians" don't have a clue). I'll also email Anet I think and ask them if it may be their servers (I know they have had probs but I mean has it got worse recently).

Cheers.

Yeah my ISP is BT as well, but a lot of people who use different ISP also having a hardtime with lag lately, all of them are on EU server and about 40% are outside UK. My other online games such as BF2 and the like are ok no lag, normal ping, even LOTR beta is working ok.

So I don't really know what's going on?

I'm on Orange and my ping rate has been often on an average way over 1000 and lag has been terrible. I'm in the South of England, near Windsor.

Sometimes the game is almost unplayable, a mix of killer lag, rubberbanding and disconnects (error code =007, etc) when entering towns/outposts or leaving them.

It always seems to be worse in the evenings than it is in the mornings.

As I recall for most people in EU server the bad lag and the high ping started around Cantha's New Year, and the problem hasn't yet go away or fixed.
And for the past couple of weeks the lag has become even worst, still playable only just.

So it does look like an Anet problem and not us. As I've mentioned my PC is not riddled with bandwidth hugging programs, either legit or virus/spyware so I know it's not that (although I'm always open minded where PCs are concerned). The thing is, Anet know about the problem with the servers and have posted about it on their official website. This was posted ages ago and although it says they hope to resolve it as soon as possible, quite obviously thery haven't (mainly because the message is still on their site).

Dunno if it's worth contacting them over it again ...

Yeah, I remember reading a post by Gaile about a week ago, maybe more. She said there was a fault with the server in Germany, that affected the whole EU server but that should be fix by now. So I guess we can only wait and see, or switch server.

I'm in Derbyshire and my ISP is Nildram. My ping is Always over 150!!! so I come to the conclusion whichever server I connect to ISN'T in the UK cos when i play other games like BF2 etc with a full server I get a ping around 35-40.

It even makes me wonder if the Euro servers are even in Europe

I've contacted Anet support. I know they already know about it but I thought if we stop letting them know it's still happening they may think all is well. Anyhoo, they emailed me back asking what ISP I was with etc and told me to run the GW self diagnostics (gw.exe -diag). Sent it back, wait and see now. I am really hoping it's them because this lag is BAD.

ATM I've stopped doing any major missions (especially places like FoW and the UW that require payment to get in) because it's just not worth the hastle. I've quit a few missions because it keeps stalling and I'd hate to have to do that at the end of a big mish that's taken me 30-45 mins.

In-game my ping varies between 50 and 2000 yet if I trace route to the servers it's no more than 30. I'm on Plusnet but at the moment am trialing the BT RIN system which is giving me back quicker speeds but doing nothing for the latancy.

It's not just you BT or ADSL users, I know of several people, myself included who are on a cable connection, that suffered from serious lag spikes last night.

Everything freezing on screen for 10-15 seconds, and you just wait for that lovely 040 or 007, and then for no reason it all springs back to life again.

Seems more like a packet loss issue than a high ping issue, and one that is at the server end.

Still got no reply from them but I'm glad I'm not the only one. Wasn't really looking forward to phoning BT technical or having to format/clearout my PC. Especially when I know other programs run fine. So it deffo looks like the Anet servers are at fault OR something between us and the servers has gone belly up and the route is fecked up.

Just noticed a change on the GW official site network news

Quote:
Network News
One of our network providers will be performing routine network maintenance during the period listed below. Players may lose connectivity or may be unable to connect during the maintenance period.

Planned Start: Monday 3/19/2007 7:00 pm PDT (10:00 pm EDT; 2:00 am GMT)
Planned Finish: Monday 3/19/2007 8:00 pm PDT (11:00 pm EDT; 3:00 am GMT)
Impact Duration: 5 minutes, intermittent
Dunno if this is to sort out any problems we're having. I hope so.
