Default Guild Wars failed to initialize 3D output

When trying to run Guild Wars I now currently get the following message:

"Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX8 and an updated video driver.

Click the URL below to open a web page with more information.

http://www.guildwars.com/support/en-3dinitializationerror.php"

Just to confirm I currently have the updated DirectX which I have reinstalled as per the instructions on the webpage.
I also meet and exceed all the specified requirements.
I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT (PCI-E/AGP) graphics card with the same driver as before. I have since updated it and this has not corrected the problem either.
This error has only just started happening since the latest Guild Wars update. Before that, Guild Wars was running fine.

Any thoughts?

Have you contacted NCsoft about this? if not, go to here http://www.guildwars.com/support/ and follow the instructions there to send a "ticket" about it.

Also, im not sure if this would help at all but have you tried re-downloading the dat file?

I'm an ATI graphics user so this might not help you in any way but here goes.

Right Click and select 'Properties' then under the 'Settings' Tab click 'Advanced'. Under 'Troubleshooting' is the Hardware Acceleration slider as far along to the right as it can go?

Sorry if this doesn't help. Good luck.

Edit: If you can't fix it, try System Restore (assuming that you're running XP).

Also, have you tried running DxDiag and seeing if DirectDraw/3D is enabled?

I recently visited some family and went to play GW on their comp and got that same error. All it took was re-enabling DirectDraw/3D.

Start DxDiag via typing "DxDiag" in the Run command.
Go to the Graphics tab and look at the bottom - there will be 3 option's about DirectDraw Acceleration, Dired3D Acceleration & AGP Texture Acceleration.
- Make sure all 3 are Enabled - if they are disabled, you'll get the error your getting.

Got a support ticket. Ran the diagnostic on request and sent them the data.
Apparently my graphics driver and DX9 both had corrupted files. This could have happened when my GW crashed a few mins into playing after the update the other day. Had to uninstall all my graphical related items and reinstall. Its now fixed.

[edit] forgot to mention, apparently updating or repairing either the drivers or DX9 won't fix the corrupted files. Only a complete uninstall and deletion of files then a reinstall can fix it!
