Default Guild Wars is already Running???

Okay ppl so I have had this happen for awhile right after I purchased a "new" PC last September (peice of crap reallY).

So what happens is I open Guild Wars, play then exit. But when I try to open Guild Wars again I get a window saying a copy of Guild Wars is already running on my PC, or it has insufficient rights to detect whether I have a copy of Guild Wars running or not. What is the possible cause of this? On my old PC it never happened...

well i got the same problem, thank u anet for making me reinstall GW 2nd time in less than 2 month, 1st time it happened i tryed to contact tech support, but TS was so useless compare to this forum.... its weird cos ppl in TS are getting paid for not reading customers questions and copy-pasting some random stuff pretending they're answering, while ppl in this forum are giving valuable advices for free

well in short - last update was too buggy, u'll have to reinstall GW now 'cos theres no other way to run it now. thanks anet there was thread in this forum about this bug, few ppl got affected, 1 guy found a solution, it worked for evr1 back then, so now i'm going to reinstall it w/o trying to do smth else...

Regarding this issue - by any chance were you guys using -image to update? I've noticed that if you close gw while using -image to update, this issue may occur. It seems to clear up by itself after some amount of time, leading me to think that GW is still processing something in the background even though the window has closed.

Anyhow, I'm a bit puzzled why you'd have to re-install... At worst, it would seem like you would just have to re-boot the machine to clear any processes. But like Ako said, you should be able to manually kill the process.

Ako if it were that easy I wouldn't have posted.

When I Ctrl/Alt/Delete, it is not a running application, and when I check the processes, its at 0%, meaning GW is not running at all.

I just recently re-installed GW on Wednesday, and it still keeps doing it.

And could you explain this -image to update? Are you talking about when I leave GW idle on the login screen? From what I remember I downloaded all of that...

This may be an inaccurate statement. If you can see a process called GW.exe running in your task manager then you have found the problem. Whether it is at 0% or 100% doesn't matter. You will need to kill this process before you will be allowed to run GW again. My thoughts are that some system files have become corrupted or damaged somehow. The -image option may fix that and I would give it a shot.

The best way to accomplish this is to make a copy of your shortcut and then right-clik and select Properties. Make the necessary changes to match the below image. Then run this shortcut to download any remaining files you might be missing.
