Please enlighten me/us what the "lots of problems" are?, I am using vista with no problems whatsoever, and so are many people on this forum.

To the OP there has been some issues with nvidia drivers and creative drivers, but that cannot be blamed on vista or microsoft. Please provide your PC specs so we can assist you.

There is no point posting what Aambei did, it is not helpful in the slightest.

I dont know much about the physics card, what I do know is that they are pretty bad, quality and performancewise, If I was you I would physically remove it and all the drivers associated with it. Plus the fact there is not many games that can actually use the ppu. Try that first to see if its that that is causing your issue.

One question, did the Aegia come as standard with the PC or did you buy it? your pc is very powerful, and if you did buy it you should have saved your money.

the card came with it. was a packaged deal type thing. and while im comfortable in going into the computer and pulling it out im not comfortable doing that to a computer that is 3 days old. im just going to hope that the ppu is not the issue and try other ideas. is there a way to disable the card w/o completely uninstalling it? or to disable for just GW?

I can understand your concerns, you could try to see if there is an option in ageia control panel to disable it. GW does not use it and is not been patched to use the ppu's effects, but its pressence there especially the driver could be whats causing the problem, but that is only me going on what I know about them.

Try to see if there are any problems related to vista and the ppu, I have to go now, but I will log back in later.

good luck

There might be something like Gateways EZ-tune software on your computer causing the problem. I had a similiar problem when I bought a new Gateway 22 inch widescreen lcd monitor. I installd their EZ-Tune software and all I would see was a black screen or worse a white line in the middle of the screen with sound but no usable picture. After trial and error I finaly decided to remove the EZ-Tune software and now have no problems. Check for any software that tunes your monitor and remove it. That should fix theproblem. As far as Vista goes the 32 bit version is working out rather good with several of the popular games. The problem occurs when players try to run the 64 bit version due to a lack of support by the manufacturers.

Make sure you are running as admin for the program in Vista(right lcick icon, properties should see a check box to click to allow to run as admin). EZ tune does suck, uninstalled it myself , Check the video card for compatability. It may be the offbrand doesnt like the graphics in GW. Since it was prebuilt check the warranty and support for it and see what they say.

Vista works fine for me, but have you tried running it in XP SP2 compatibility mode?

Just for the record, Alienware are shite!

Fava
Try uninstalling the video card drivers and just use the Vista's DEFAULT drivers and see what happens

Well I'm running Vista with an Aegia card and no problems at all with GW or any other app/game.

That said Alienware is shit well that’s your opinion, It's funny I benchmarked mine against my friends that said the same thing and my box out performed theirs.

Best part is I won my Alienware pc from a contest

I had this problem happen when I first installed Vista. Black screen, no mouse, just sound. It was a problem with the drivers. I installed older Vista drivers (ver. 97.46) and everything worked fine. I've now upgraded to the newest Vista drivers off of Nvidia's website. I would give that a shot...if that doesn't work, I would try drivers from tweaksrus.com or download drivercleaner and install the drivers that they recommend. Good luck!

Not just mine, but everybody I know who's been conned into buying an Alienware POS! Each one of them has declared that never again will they even think about getting one.

Home building is always the best, my current rig will easily wipe the floor with any Alienware system yet it cost about 1/3 of the price to build.
