Default Game is sticking a lot (5 fps) really need your help, unusual situation

Hi all.

I got prophecies a few weeks ago and it used to run fine, 25-40 fps, to me thats playable.

Over the past few days it slowed down a lot. 7 fps max, even in the places i used to get 40 fps.

I tried loads of stuff, reinstalling the game, running various anti virus programs and anti spyware stuff, i tried running it in dx8, disabling the shaders, nothing seems to work.

I get a low fps even in the client, before you log in.

i just dunno what happened.

my pc specs are 1.3GHZ athlon
397 sdram
60 gig hd
overclocked ati 9550

Any advice at all is really apprecieated, if all else fails ill have to format my pc which i really wouldent like to do.

BTW only the game has slowed down, windows is running as normal so i guess if it was due to some sort of virus then it would effect the performance of windows aswell.......

HELP!!!!

I highly doubt its a virus, but how do other games run on your box? And what is you page file usage before and while your playing guild wars? (you can see that in the task manager where it says Commit Charge: XM/XM lower is better for the first number). Updating to the newest drivers or maybe modified drivers may help also if I remember correctly the 9550 is a DX9 compatible card, and check your resolution also.

Some people have reported similar problems related to the recent sound engine update. Check this thread for details:

If that is your problem, the -dsound switch might help.

Yeah, let's have this discussion over in this thread topic.

And, I am having these lag snags as well, presumably related to the audio update.
