Red face Bad Sound Quality

Ever since the update where they added hero battle ladder, etc, they also changed the sound device that guild wars used and since then, I've been getting bad quality of sound, always crackly and just painful to listen to. I've ended up turning everything off but effects, but I'd still like to know a way if there is any, to bring back the good sound quality that I had before.

I'm running Windows XP
1.86 GHz Pentium M Processor
1 gig of ram
integrated Sigmatel audio soundcard

Please help. Thanks!

What's the quality slider set for in your sound settings?

Are you using DirextX9?

Is the DirectX Sound Hardware Acceleration Level <DXdiag> all the way up?

And, you might want to force DirectSound by using the -dsound switch parameter in the command line. <assuming you sound system supports DirectSound/EAX>

Otherwise, try the other switches and see if there is any difference:

-sndasio : attempts to use an ASIO driver in software mode
-sndwinmm: attempts to use the Windows Multimedia audio driver in software mode
