which graphically makes no difference with DX10, as the DX9l component within DX10 is the same DX9 that will be shipping with XP SP3 at the end of this year...

DX10 and the inherent DX9L component greatly increase the power and output of DX9 graphics cards, that are connected to Dual core systems due to the dual core optimization that come with vista...

i have noticed (before this update) an increase of between 10 and 15% in FPS benchmarks between XP and vista on my rig...

The only issue with DX10 is the dropping of the Directsound API's and it seems that this will be happening with the release of DX9L with SP3, however, the sound manufacturers have been ALOT quicker getting updated drivers outfor systems using vista

Default I Turned off Antialiasing

I too have the same problem. Turning off Antialiasing helped alot. I also noticed that trying to change audio settings (like hw acceleration or even changing the slider) crashes the game.

I'm running:

Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
P4 3.4 EE
2GB RAM
nVidia Geforce 7800GS AGP
Creative Audigy 4 Extreme Gamer
Creative Alchemy 1.3 (since Anet won't provide OpenAL support in Vista)

My system is set to dual-boot XP, so I'll try it later and update this post.

-Forjo

**Update**

Thanks to Gaile Gray's post I tried the -dsound switch and it's back to normal!

I have had to turn off antialiasing to improve the framerate. Dam those jaggies even then thing are not as smooth as they used to be.

I just don't understand how they can make the game worse than it used to be in terms of functionality and compatibility. Also the cpu usage has increased and I got my first in game crash occur.

I don't know what happened in the update to ruin vista compatibility but I binned off Xp around xmas time since I tested a dual boot system and GW was running fine up to the other day. About the direct x 10 issue, vista still fully supports dx 9c and I have had to install it for some other games, but maybe your correct that the direct system has been messed up somehow.

If there is no fix in the next couple weeks I will have to put xp back on my machine, guess my direct song music will work with the game again if I did that.

As mentioned earlier the -dsound switch had no effect for myself.

Any other Vista users out there want to comment on the recent update and game preformance?

If you really want AA in guild wars and have normal FPS at the same time, you could try using the command line -dx8 to force guild wars run in directx 8. Which works for me even with AA on, but some reflections and rendering effects may be gone.

Re-Install your GW.
OR defragment then use -image command on your GW.exe
That should help.

I am having problems since 4/18. My fps has dropped to 6, since wednesday. I am using XP Pro, and have had no problems until the 4/18. I am not at my computer to provide all of the other details. My ping is green, but play seems laggy none the less.

3DMark06 Basic edition in default mode: 3560 3DMarks on Windows XP64 Pro.
Hardware:
Asus A8N-E
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ not OC'ed
3072 MB DDR PC 3200 CL3 running dual mode not OC'ed
Asus NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 560MHz/1.40GHz driver rev. 93.71 running default

Funny that my score is higher on XP, and that with stock speeds and non tweaked drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_93.71.html

So says nothing really.

Btw. what are your GW graphical game options set to?

Another thing that crossed my mind, neither 3DMark06 or GW supports DX10.... and almost forgot this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
April update. Btw. the Vista DX9 is not the same that will come for XP. Vistas DX9 part is a backward compatible add, not a new DX9.
The SP3 DX9 will be a compatibility add for XP to run DX10 games, since DX10 will be Vista only.
MS claims that the infrastructure of Vista differs to much for them to be able to give older Windows releases a DX10.
