Default FPS drop

Been running GW for 1 year now and this problem has only appeared within the last 2 months or so. Basically whenever I enter battle with more than 10 or so players/enemies my fps will drop to <10. Naturally I tried turning everything to low which gives me 70+ fps normally but again the moment I start a fight it drops.

Now the strange thing is (Stranger than the fact it only suddenly started doing this) is that after 10 seconds or so of this, it instantly goes. Doesnt matter if anything has died or not, can be the same number of enemies hacking away yet the fps goes back up.

Running:

AMD Opteron 144 1.8GHz
1GB RAM
Nvidia 6800GT 256MB

Any help would be most appreciated

GW dynamically loads some things in the game (I believe spell effects, possibly sound effects). It could be that something is slowing this process down more than it used to, such as a highly fragmented drive. This would make some sense, as once the data is loaded and cached, it should speed up again. I would recommend trying to defrag your drive, see if that helps.

Also, the other obvious advice applies. Make sure you have the latest video drivers, etc...

Yeah I have got all the latest drivers, but it has been a while since I did a defrag. Thanks for the tip.

Ok after defragging still got the same issue, no change in the fps either so that wasnt the cause.

What other applications are you running in the background?

Normally I just run an irc client along with firefox. This worked fine before.

However since it started I have tried running just GW but it still produces the same effect.

Defragging does not help to get more FPS, it just gives better loading times.
