actually, i have the netgear WGR614v5 with 1.07 firmware and i had the same problem as everyone else with the netgear router.

i disabled port triggering and i was able to connect fine, but I realized that disabling port triggering everytime is going to be a hassle.

i eventually found a way to keep port triggering and be able to connect to guild wars. for reference, i'm hardwired into the router and i haven't tried with wireless.

my steps:

1. log into the router (type 192.168.1.1 into any browser)
2. click on the right side "port forwarding / port triggering"
3. click on port triggering on the top.
4. click on the "starcraft" port and edit it.
5. under "service type" change TCP to UDP
6. apply changes and log out.
7. make sure u exit guild wars and restart. ( i tried when i was running the game in the background and it doesn't work all the time )

it seems to work for me and when i changed it back to TCP instead of UDP, i can't log in again.

however, i would still hope that ArenaNet will be able to fix this the proper way. i'm not a pro when it comes to networking but i did take some classes on computers before and i believe TCP is the better way to transfer data, since it is less prone to data error when transferring.

anyways hope it helps people who desperately need it, and i hope there will be a real fix in the future.

I'm having a different problem. The GuildWars comes up fine, I input my email address and password, then on the next page, it tells me to put a pass code into the given boxes, which I do with the pass code that came with the box when I pre-ordered, and then it says 'your account has been created already with this passcode, and won't let me go any further. I'm frusterated as I've been waiting all day to play this...

Thanks for all the help in this thread guys

I just wanted to add that my netgear wgr614 allowed me to disable port triggering only for 6112

this seems to have solved the problem

Thanks so much this worked perfectly for me. I just hope they find a better solution soon but at least i can play now. I have another question though, will this effect any of my other games becuase i changed this setting? Or only if they happen to use this port?

Default No Netgear same problem

I am using a Linksys Wireless router and am having the same problems. I get kicked off after a while and get a error 5 or 7.

Have not heard back from support. Router is pretty new. This is not exclusive to Netgear.

Any suggestions.

Default unable to connect

Hi all,

I am having problems very similar to those mentioned here. Just bought the game yesterday and haven't been able to play at all hardly...bummer.

I also have a Netgear router and so was intrigued by the number of users having this problem who own this type of router. However, I have bypassed my router hooking up straight into the modem, temporarily, and am having the same results. I have a friend who has the exact same computer hardware I have and is playing the game without a hitch. The only appreciable difference is that he is using a DSL connection with Bell South and I am using a cable modem with Time Warner RoadRunner service.

That got me to thinking that it could be a problem with the connection between the server and a cable modem or possibly even the RoadRunner servers. So, I had him log into my account and guess what...worked like a charm.

So how about it, are any of you who are having trouble using a cable modem with broadband service from RoadRunner or other similar service?

Thanks,
Mark

Default connection problem solved

At least for me it seems to be. I have the same Netgear router that others are using and was haveing the same problems even with hooking straight into my cable modem and bypassing the router. Last night I tried an experiment that seems to have fixed the problem.

I decided last night that if I was not going to be able to play on my broadband connection that I would just hook up over dial-up. I used a local number RoadRunner provides and connected at around 28K. I was able to play for over an hour without any problems, although the zoning times took longer than what I'm used to, but that is expected on a dial up. After logging off of dial up, I decided to try the broadband connection one more time. I was still hooked straight in to the cable modem and bypassing the router. To my surprise I was able to log on quickly and played for over an hour zoning in and out of areas very quickly and without any problems. This morning I hooked my router back up and again was able to connect quickly and play without problems.

I can’t imagine what playing over a dial up connection could do to fix the problem but it worked for me. I have a description of what happened submitted to NC and will let you know what they say.

Happy gaming!

Unhappy Similar problems

Hi, I have a similar thread at
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...3367#post93367 but I thought I would comment here since D-Link was mentioned (with high praise).

Yes, their bedside manner is good- they are reachable 24/7 and are friendly with a minimum of wait time.

I have open port 6112, but I don't know what else I can do to prevent the dreaded error=7 back to login screen problem every 10 minutes or so.

Any suggestions?

Arrggg, me too! I disabled my firewall, turned my AV off and still I get this blasted err=7 message.

Sometimes it happens in five minutes, other times it may go without errors for 45 minutes. I know I've probably ticked off a few people by getting disconnected while on a team quest. They probably think I just left them alone..... It's to the point I'm afraid to go with anyone but the henchmen.

Servere problems today with the servers, its been pretty much perfect for me until today, now the game is very laggy and drops me (Err=7) pretty much every 5 - 10 minutes, I say this is another server problem.

Just got dropped with error 7. Rebooted, turned off Steam, AVG, SpySweeper and tried again and got error 5. It`s got to be a server thing because I`ve played since the E3 Event without a hitch.

hmm.. ok I've had the game for a week, running like a dream, with no problems at all

today i try to logon and i get err=5.

I may be experiencing internet routing issues it says, but i do not own or use a router.
this is certainly frustrating...

also i was kicked off before this mess with error 7...

so i'm thinking one of the servers is shaky on their side, or just too much lag
