Default Vista x64, 8800gtx, 680i

Has anyone been able to get GW running on the above hardware? I am able to start up GW but after running the game between 1-5 minutes the game will lock up the computer. I am able to ctrl-alt-del and start up the task manager to stop GW but as soon as I do I get a BSOD with a PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES.

I'm running the 100.65 drivers (the 101.41 constantly crashes for me). I've got access to more than one 8800Gtx to try and still got this error. I've also run memtest86+ for 24hours with no errors and Orthos for several hours with no errors.

Have you tried using a different vidcard (other than 8800)? I hear that the newer cards and mobos are a bit glitchy, dunno if it's true though.

Ah Nvidia 8800Gtx, extremely powerfull for just under £200. Oblivion, Fear, Stalker run fine on that setup but sadly some older games weren't so lucky. My advice would be to try the compatibility, set that to Win XP service pack 2 and see how that goes. Or wait for the better driver from nvidia.

What directX are you running? Because you have vista, you may want to try GW with dx9.

You cannot backtrack to DX9 with vista, it comes with DX10 as standard. I will be picking up another GTX today so I will try it and get post my findings.

EDIT oops, may have misread what you meant, if you meant using the -dx9 tag on the end of the .exe then that may or may not work.

Neither the -dx9 flag nor running it in compatibility mode works. I will try and get ahold of another card to try at some point.

My big concern is that I don't know for sure if it is a driver problem or if I have a bad piece of hardware. No other games I've run have caused this.

nVidia's Vista drivers blow chunks. I run a similiar setup on XP and GW runs beautifully.

PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES BSOD load of people are having it with a lot of games from BF2 to far cry. This is a long shot but could it be your sound card driver? Creative lab also having an issue with Vista, worth a try if you have that sound card.

Re-install DX9 from Microsoft website.
It will add some dx9 files that are not present on vista.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
(it won't harm anything either)

Also.. not sure how well GW works on Vista 64.. I do know it work on Vista 32 bit. I suspect it's the hardware drivers, 64bit drivers are typically not as mature as the 32 driver, or updated as frequently.

since when was a 8800gtx <£200 ???????? they are trhe best part of £400, as they are the TOP model of 8800, i have one .

agree with the above poster, the 32bit vista runs gw perfectly with this card, try using it if possible, or just wait for better drivers to be released or windows hotfix :[

If you are running Vista, you should know that there are MANY compatibility issues when running games on it right now. Until Microsoft addresses these issues for games that were running on XP, the only surefire thing you can do is partition your hard drive and install Windows XP in the partition. You will be able to boot up Windows XP at anytime during the boot-up process so you can run your games and any other programs you may be having problems with when running Vista.

Has anyone ran GW with this hardware and vista 32bit fine? Maybe it is the 64 bit version I'm running.

If it's a driver problem then there's nothing I can do about it for now, but if it's a bad piece of hardware then I'd like to know about it so I can get it replaced.

yes, it works fine with the 32bit version, although there are known issues with the 64bit version of vista

wouldnt WOW64 (The emulation) Take care of any problems? Im leaning towards Video card problems due to the 1-5 minute thing but it might be the 64 bit. Im interested in this tidbit though as i want to know if guildwars will run in 64 bit.

I've heard of quite a few people who are able to run GW on Vista 64, I'm just wondering if they've done it with this particular hardware combination.

I get a similar problem and I'm running 2x 6800GTX (sli), Evga 680i MB, and Vista 32 bit.

My problem might not be the same one, so I'm posting a new topic about it, as my game only locks when loading a map.

Default Update:

I was convinced it had to do with either the video card or the motherboard because of the stop error codes and the explanations given by Vista. I finally decided to look at the sound card and found that by using the -nosound switch I could run GW fine.

I had read some reports that people who reinstalled GW had cleared up a lot of their problems. I suspect this had more to do with a reset of their gw.dat more than anything else but I decided to start from scratch with a clean reinstall of gw and see for myself. I uninstalled all of gw and started reinstalling everything step by step to see where the process failed and I seem to have found my problem.

I can run a clean GW install just fine as long as I don't try to add anything. As soon as I try to use ALchemy to enable EAX or install the DirectSong music and drivers my original problem comes back. If I remove both of these then I can run GW just fine. Since I can use (and hear) vanilla GW just fine I wonder if my problem has more to do with GW trying to use these extra dll's?

Question:

Why are you using the 64bit version of vista?
