I was playing Guildwars yesterday and after about 30-40 minutes play the game froze and so did the PC. thinking nothing of it i restarted my PC.

When my PC came back on i tried to play GW again only for it to freeze up before loading. Only this time i was given an error message saying somthing about DirectX failing to initialize. So i tried to see if the problem was with GW, so i tried to play COD only to have that cause my computer to crash.

Now whenever i start my computer up there are pixels missing all over the bios menus, when the windows loader bar appears its all pixelated and the black background is covered in missing pixels. Once the windows loading screen ends, the computer stops sending a signal to my monitor. The only way i can use my PC atm is in safemode and it wont let me do anything.

What could be the cause of this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your graphics card is dying most probably, if you can remove it clean the copper connectors on it and re-seat it in the slot, unistall and reinstall your graphic card driver, update if necessary.

Yup, i had the same problem in the past.
Took out the card and clean it with a cloth and it should work.

Nope, the DirectX is not faulty since he has problems with pixels even in his BIOS. It looks like it's most likely a hardware problem and as the others have mentioned it's probably his graphics card.

thats what i figured it might be. Thanks for the info folks. funnily enough ive been looking at buying a new gfx card anyway :P

Ill try the cleaning and reinstalling of my gfx card. Can any1 recommend a decent GFX card that isnt to expensive incase it doesnt work..

At this moment the ATI x1900 cards are the best bang for the buck seeing as how there has been a serious price drop.

no memory or bad card i had same prob but i would put in somemore RAM in your computer

Hehe. A lot of people seem to be under that impression. The truth is that not having enough RAM, not having a powerful enough CPU, and not having a powerful enough video card should NEVER, EVER cause your computer to reboot, lock up, or blue screen. If these things are happening something is broken, whether that be a bad driver, a bad driver installation, your system registry is corrupted, corrupted data in general, a piece of hardware is failing, etc. In some rare cases it may be possible that the folks that wrote some software didn't support some older hardware properly as well, but that's usually not the case. Insufficient system specs can cause slowness and such, but hanging and rebooting almost always means that something is wrong.

Some folks also seem to think that playing a newer game on an older video card can make it overheat. This isn't true either. If your video card is overheating it means it's not being cooled properly....period.
