Default Horrid FPS when moving.

'ello, long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyhow, I can't seem to find any posts of much relevance via this forum's search engine, so I decided to ask myself...

Basically, this problem has been prevalent for awhile, started around.....4 months since Factions came out.

What happens is that the frame-rate for some reason keeps dropping whenever the camera needs to move, and said frame-rate just keeps getting lower, and lower, over time, until it maximizes around 5 frames/sec.

Thing is, said frame-rate is perfectly fine at a stand-still, but once I start moving again, oh hey, 5 fps again until I stop....

Anyone know of a solution or fix for this? ANet's tech support just kept looping me through circles of the basics which eventually lead nowhere..

Guess it'd be wise to post my PC Specs...

AMD64 3600+ (2.21ghz)
2gb DDR RAM (can't recall the bandwidth of it)
256mb GeForce6800 GT (latest ForceWare drivers)
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
160gb 7900 RPM harddrive

I've done all the usual stuff, defrag, -image/-noshaders/-dx8, lowered graphical settings, reinstalled, etc, etc, frame-rate still dips beyond playable when the camera moves no matter what I do.

Do you play any other games? If so, do you notice a similar pattern?

I'm thinking the source of the problem lies in your computer, but not with your hardware.

Nope, every other game (Half-Life2, Doom3, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, STALKER, World of Warcraft, The Movies, TrackMania United, etc etc) runs either flawlessly with everything maxed, or within reason givin' the game in question.
(stupid Oblivion)

Still not a dang clue what I could do to see what might be the problem, as the only thing I can think of blaming are the nVidia drivers, since I've had past encounters with the latest one being the culprit in the past.
(albeit the "latest" ones for my card is over a year ago)

It could be a sound-related problem. Try switching between software and hardware sound, or try one of these switches:
-sndasio
-sndwinmm
-dsound
-nosound
-mute

I'm tracking a similar problem on another thread now. Try what StormLord suggested and post here if it worked or not.

Using -nosound, and so far so good.........halfway through a mission and frame-rate's keeping a steady 40fps.
(and that's @ 1280x1024 with everything cranked/2x AA >.>)

Geforce 6/7 series had this bug a while ago, and it fixed with some driver release or GW build a couple months after Factions. It was a problem with the dx9 renderer for me, tanking my fps while moving, so I forced -dx8 until NV or Anet came up with the fix.

BTW: with a 6800 gt you can run 4xAA and be fine at that resolution.

if it's the sound, then consider getting a dedicated sound card. i'm willing to bet you are using the integrated sound that comes with your computer.
