Default Connection Troubles

Howdy

I got a free 14 day trial of Guild Wars with a copy of PC Zone. Installed it, and loaded it up, signed up, and made my new character. I picked his name, and then it had an error and didn't load the game world, taking me to my character selection screen. I didn't feel like playing though, as it was late.

Got up this morning, and tried to login, and get stuck on the 'connecting screen, shown here:

Whats the problem? I've tried doing it with my firewall (outpost) and virus checker (Nod32), and still can't connect. I left it for about an hour trying to connect with no joy

Thanks.

Is Gw.exe listed in the trusted zone of applications in outpost? Also, are you using a router?

It is in the trusted list, and I am not using a router.

This is what I ran into from outpost's web site for information on games.

Quote:
Built-in game protection uses write process memory functions. A temporary file is created and initialized when the program starts which location cannot be predicted and which writes into a game process's memory. This activity is considered by Outpost Firewall as suspicious. To avoid blocking, select the Ignore Component Control check box in all rules for the game's executable file (for example, "C:\PROGRAM FILES\EA GAMES\BATTLEFIELD 2\BF2.EXE").

Hmm, maybe you would have to go through in creating a rule for Gw.exe from scratch. There's a little guide I found for doing that, not sure if it matters what version of outpost you have. Ports would be TCP 6112 and 80

lol, figures. I guess if people are having connection problems it's a good idea to try a fresh install first. Good to hear it's working now.
