Default Unable to patch Guild Wars

I just downloaded the update and I cannot install it for some reason

The Guild Wars box pops up as normal to try and apply the patch, then a maroon box pops up and says:
"Unable to Install
The installer could not write Guild Wars to the specified directory. Please check that you have administrative access, that you have permission to install programs in the specified directory, and that there is sufficient space available on the drive"

There is only one admin account on my computer, and that is mine, and I have over 40gb left on my hard drive.

I've had this problem before, but I just reinstalled the game since it had been running kind of awkwardly anyway, and it fixed the problem; but that process took like 8 hours with complete decompression of the game. I'd prefer to not go down that path again, since I would have to do that every time they patch they implement.

Any ideas what I could do?

Edit: Also, in the past, I tried copying my GW.dat file into my 40gb portable drive. I just formatted the drive, and the gw.dat file was something like 3.96 gb. Perhaps a problem with data compression?

That's odd. Well I'm not sure this will help, probably won't but until someone smarter than me replies, here's something you can try. Make a copy of your Guild Wars shortcut (click the shortcut, hold CTRL and press C, then while still holding CTRL, press V to make a copy in the same area). After that, right click it and click properties. To the right of Target is a box with the 'file path' of where the game executable is stored. For example, mine is:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

Just add -image after all the stuff in the box. It should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

What this does is whenever you use this shortcut, it will only patch the game (and download any files that the game normally only downloads in the background while you're playing) and then close. You'll have to use your regular shortcut to actually play the game. Anyways, give that a try and hopefully that'll help you out. Let us know. Good luck, bud.

I do that after I download a patch so I don't have to download anything once I get back into the game, but that still requires the patch to get installed, which it cannot do. =/

Do you have the anit-spyware program spybot - search and destroy on your pc? If so, its more than likely an issue with the teatimer.exe component. Just open task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and look for teatimer.exe when you see it, click and terminate the process. Nothing will happen to your pc. It will however resume running everytime you restart your pc. So just repeat as necessary if it messes with guildwars.

I just restarted my computer after about 5 days of uptime, and it went through fine. I do have Spybot installed, so perhaps the "teatime.exe" hadn't been launched yet. I was wondering what program that was anyway. Killed two birds with one stone! Thanks for the help.

Yw It usually does that whenever theres a new update. The way its been programmed, It thinks the update is a dialer and therefore stops it so it won't connect.

That's odd. I have spybot and it used to allow updates.

TeaTimer is an optional install, if I remember correctly. I haven't used it myself as I couldn't read the frickin' option buttons on the box that would pop up when it was alerted.

Thanks I MP I

Just a note, teatimer.exe seems to allow some updates while it prevents some from installing.

Hey, you're right. It was the TeaTimer.

Can some one help me with my installing problem, please???

First off i had to uninstall it because guild wars was acting wierd, at the log in screen it wouldn't let me type "R" or "C" it isn't a keyboard error because i just typed the letters. And R and C are both in my login account/name. I had to repeatedly type r & c over and over until it appeared. When it did and i got into my account it would load 20,000 files and when it was done it would close. I tried on all of my characters.

So fianlly i tried to unistall and reinstall. I tried to install it again and the same thing happens over and over. It wont' start to actually download anything. You know, when you have to insert another disc. It doesn't open the window to start downloading. I made a video with hypercam with it but i can't attach it to this

Will some one PLEASE help me??? I haven't been able to figure out what is wrong with it for a few weeks now.
