Default Catalyst 7.6 Problem

The driver hasn't been out but a day so I doubt I'll get much feedback on this, but after installing it and restarting the computer it skips testing. To those of you that have Radeon's, its that brief time where the drivers test for stability on your computer, little did I know this was required. It takes an upward of a minute usually but this new driver I've given anywhere from 15-30 minutes to get itself worked out, and It doesn't.

A test, not that important, right? Wrong, until this test occurs your computer can't function normally. Everything I do is frame by frame, loading this site was lagged frame by frame, opening programs is frame by frame. Apparently until it establishes the new drivers it also registers that your computer has no Video Card, games like Battlefield 2 and Guild Wars crash with "Unable to determine 3d output" or something along those lines.

So anyone know a possible way to fix this? I don't feel like going back to 7.5 but if thats what I have to do til 7.7 drivers I'm willing to do it.

EDIT: I found the way around it, just reinstalled the fresh software from the CD and got the 7.6 CCC (Catalyst Control Center) instead of the stand-alone display driver. For some reason I got my second boot screen of windows not shutting down normally and instead of selecting "Last Known Good Configuration" I chose to "Start Windows Normally".

There might be a slight problem with the drivers since this wasn't the first time it had popped up since reinstalling the drivers, but It seems that the Last Known Good Configuration, takes 7.6 away and instead of reverting to 7.5 it doesnt specify a driver at all, seems to be why the drivers never tested for me at start-up.

Added Note: It seems that a quick report of my computer lists that I have the ATI 6.14.10.6698 drivers (A quick google search of the version number lead me to a link that suggests it is the longer form of 7.5) so it appears I'm still at 7.5.

This makes absolutely no sense seeing as how I wiped my computer of anything ATI related, reinstalled the software CD then the 7.6 drivers only, there should be no trace of 7.5. Whatever though, I'm not gonna bother with this, I'm operating normally again and my games work just fine with 7.5 so this gamer is waiting til 7.7, sorry for the one man post log but perhaps this information could be of use to others, unless I'm the only unfortunate one.
