Default ping?

I have been reading the expansive "lag atm" thread because...im having lag atm

anyway, they reference "ping" and the circle in the lower right hand corner a lot. What does "ping" mean? It seems that the higher it is the worse off you are but i dont really get it.

Im also curious as to the significance of the colored circle/dot w/e.

Bear in mind that im a disgraceful idiot when it comes to most things in/on a computer

thanks

All ping means is the time it takes your computer at home to contact the server that the game is run on and for that server to respond! It's measured in ms (milliseconds), so 1000ms ping equates to 1 second! So, if you have a ping of 1000ms it'll take the game a full second to recognise a keypress/action.
