Default 64bit Vista and GW

I'm about to purchase a 64bit edition of windows Vista and I'd like to know if GW runs fine with it. Has anyone got this setup? Can you confirm it works?

Thankyou

Mazey

Stick with XP or wait until they release SP1.

Guild Wars runs fine on Vista.

But I don't know about the 64bit version.

It works fine with 64 bit Vista. I got my copy for $15 from school and installed it and GW and it's ran fine so far. Before that I ran GW on a 64 bit XP pro set-up and it worked fine there as well. The 64 bit edition uses something similar to an emulator to run 32 bit native programs as though they were run in a 32 bit OS.

Guildwars wasn't made to run off x64. You wont notice any benefits and might experience less frames then with x32. Guildwars otherwise works perfectly with Vista.

I would generally advice against using 64-bit Vista anyway - it is buggier than the 32-bit version, and has less driver support because it only accepts Microsoft certified drivers.

Works fine in x64 but you might need to do a few things:

1. Make sure it installs in Program files (x86). Otherwise, you'll have some problems.
2. Run in administrator mode from the shortcut. This fixes an issue with Alchemy for me.
3. Run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode if you want to make sure all goes well.

I recently did a total hardware upgrade to a E6600, 8800GTX and 2gb of RAM. This is running Vista 64 bit Home Premium, latest certified drivers for everything.

I've been running Guild Wars (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall) for a week without a single problem. I did't have to fiddle with any settings or change anything.

Hi there

I have been playing Guild Wars on Windows Vista Business 64-bit since last December and it runs fine. In fact it has a better frame rate now then when I had xp.

A few things to note however, the screenshots and build template folder will be placed in user documents/guildwars. The game will be in c:\program files (x86).

When you minimise Guild Wars and then maximise the frame rate will drop due to the aero desktop, so avoid minimising the game. Also I have had problems getting the Factions and Nightfall CE Directsong bonus music to work with a manual install with the zipped versions. The Sorrows Furnace pack and Battle Pack work fine. The flash downloader’s won't work so I got the zipped versions and used the register program.

If anyone here has the Faction and Nightfall Collectors Edition music work in Vista 64 please let me know the directory since they are both different then the battle and SF packs when you unzip them.

Thanks.

I've been playing on Vista Ultimate 64-bit and it works like a dream. I love it. I can't say that it runs better than 32bit as my only 32bit machine is my laptop and it's not even in the same ballpark (it's not nearly so fast as my desktop), but it runs beautifully for me. I run at max settings, everything runs smooth, sounds great, looks great, ect. It also is working great for my husband (also running 64-bit Vista Ultimate).
