Default Wireless help, keep getting disconnected

I have come back to play Guild Wars after a year layoff. I have moved and just put in a Linksys WRT54G (or WTR, cant remember) wireless router. I have two computers, one is old and stil wireless compatible, ad the other is my laptop I play Guild Wars on.

My first day was yesterday. During the reinstalll and the download of the 18000 plus files, I would get disconnected randomly, the error was something like "disconnected from internet, please check connection." My other older computer NEVER lost connectivity, at least thats what the software for my wireless hardware said.

WIth my laptop, I would just click my character and would be immediatly logged back in, like nothing happened to the internet.

I havent been wanting to pvp or join any groups because of this issue. Any help?

i used to have a simular problem, my bros pc ( modem) would stay connected, and mine (wireless) would d/c all the time, we tried everything, but nothing worked, then i did a virus scan on my bros pc and .. he'd never done one! i found 18,000 infected files, once i sorted all that out, problem fixed. ive never been d/c since.

must have been bug or somthing in the router? lol.

hope you find a solution =]

Im very careful with my laptop/wireless connection. Both are wireless, and hve high protection. I run adaware about twice a week and have virus scans and firewalls active. I checked to see if it was just my firewall blocking the connection to Guild Wars so I disabled it and I would still disconnect :/

Although, I live below a business, and my wireless router is connected upstairs to the business computers. No one is here when I am home, so maybe all the computers upstairs need to be cleaned of spyware and viruses if they have any?

You would probably benefit from a Wireless Range Extender.
It's basically a device that 'retransmits' a captured wireless signal with boosted strength. I use this in my house due to the fact the wi-fi router is on another floor. After adding the WRE, all my connection loss issues went away.

btw, I also use a WRT54G

1. Does it d/c when you are close to the WAP?
2. Do you have cordless 2.4 ghz phones in your home?
3. Do you see other wireless networks on your notebook?
4. What type of walls are separating you from line of sight?
5. Does your laptop work fine on other WIFI connections?

WRT54G also seem to fail after two years on the early versions of it v1-4 from my dealings with them.

"Although, I live below a business, and my wireless router is connected upstairs to the business computers. No one is here when I am home, so maybe all the computers upstairs need to be cleaned of spyware and viruses if they have any"

Are you leeching the connection?
