Update your Graphic Drivers. That should solve your problems or the problem could be heating.

How about we start off by having your computer specifications?

Write down the error code and search it. Then you can find out what device is causing the problem, so you can update the drivers for it.

if your blue screening in Vista, theres something very wrong, I only blue screened once (yes, driver for my webcam, of all things) but I've pushed Vista harder than I usually pushed XP and its much tougher to crack

Oh and I also got a rise in Frames per Second in guild wars compared to XP

So yeah, post the error code and also your system specs and someone here will be able to help

My personal opinion is its a directx error of some kind... Now we can not tell for sure without an error code or an ArenaNet.log (use the switch below to get an error log file)

-diag
Run's anet Diagnostic Utility. It will create a log file (GWDiag.txt) and save a copy of it to your desktop (or your Guildwars folder). It checks communication to there server's as well as detailed information about your system and driver's. Great if you need to submit a work order ticket to support.
Usage: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -diag
The problems most have in Vista is not having enough memory to handle the OS and other things too... So if you used to get by with 1gb, at least double it now on Vista. I personally think Vista shouldn't be run on anything less then a Pent IV Hyper Threading with 2gb RAM & 256mb video card (prefer Dual core 4gb ram and a 512mb video card or dual video cards), cause its a major resource hog in and of itself... Thats just to get the OS to run well... getting games to run well on it you will need more then the minimum.

The reason I think its DX is cause I always have trouble with games using the DX9.0c on Vista... Same games work fine on same equipment with same DX on XP pro... go figure... But that has always been my problem with Vista... its no surprise Vista is ALREADY getting a SP1 by end of the year.

I just got my new comp this morning, Vista home premium. Running the game fine at 1440x900 resolution with an average 60 FPS (beats my old 1280x800 at 7 FPS lol)

Played for 4 hours and everything was fine. I have only blue screened this comp 4 times so far, all from trying to install Zone Alarm, everything else is fine. GW runs perfectly on highest settings.

I run Vista on my 2-year old computer and i'ts preety good so far. I only have 512 RAM but it still runs pretty nice. My FPS in GW rised from 20 to 40-60 with Vista. Never got a blue screen or any kind of error (only user-made error :P (ctrl+alt+del ftw!)). I guess the DX 10 makes wonders.

For you problem, check all your drivers (sound, graphics, motherboard) and see if everything is alright.

U guys are so lucky. My specs:

2gb RAM
NVIDIA 6150 I think it is 128MB
AMD Athlon X2 2.4

I dont know if this is the code of the error, but I have a text file named ArenaNet with the details of the crash, the code is c0000005.

Ok, apart from your graphics card, your system is better than mine and i run GW no worries...

however, here's your issue:
NVIDIA 6150 I think it is 128MB

It's not enough to run Vista and GW at the same time...

Time for an upgrade

Ok, there's some nonsense in this thread.

1Gb is plenty for Vista and gaming, I run Vista on an Athlon 64 with 1Gb of Ram and a 7600GT gpu and it runs like a charm, nonsense like 'you need 2 Gb' is just that, nonsense.
GW runs at 1280x1024 with all settings maxed out at 75 FPS with me on average.

Second, Vista does NOT use the GPU if you're in a game running at full screen. DirectX gets dedicated control of the GPU even if you run Aero, however, when you Alt-Tab to Windows and then back into the game you'll notice a serious drop in framerate, clearly there's a problem there with releasing the GPU memory back to DirectX. If you dont Alt-Tab then Aero takes no GPU resources while you are gaming.

Thirdly, 90% of GPU crashes are driver related, the other 10% is hardware related, either overheating (a lot of passively cooled gpu's suffer from this) or simply defective hardware.

The guy with the 6150 is probably suffering a driver problem, I'd install the latest Nvidia drivers and properly uninstall the old ones first.

Fyi: I got blue screens in Vista and with a lot of research I discovered it was caused by my security/utility software "System Suite 7". So it's not always a hardware problem.

Um...seriously, upgrade your graphics card.
I had the same problem with my computer, although I still have not gotten a blue screen yet on my vista. After I changed my x700 gfx card to a x1950, I never had a problem running a game in vista, I EVEN dual screened it, and it was fine and did not crash.

I suppose I have a similar problem, I don't want to create a new thread since this one is related.

Short story:
Got a new laptop the other day

Specs
AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Tech Tl-56 (1.8ghz, 2 x 512kb L2 Cache)
Up to (shared) 512Mb ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 hypermemory
2GB DDR2

I run at an average of 7 fps or so. I updated the latest catalyst driver, ran windows updater and can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

Switching to XP compatable does nothing, neither does lowering quality. halp =(

That laptop isn't made for gaming. Web browsing and office type work is all it will manage.

BTW up to 128MB not 512MB

See here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...E14615,00.html

Hrm, wonder why it says 512 everywhere on it?

Also, I know it's not exactly for gaming, but neither was my 5 year old desktop and it still runs GW fine.

Your GPU is virtually the same as an x300 (128MB) desktop GPU, which in all honesty is old and shit. It will play GW because GW will run on just about anything but you will have to have all graphic settings on low with no AA. Also, what screen res does it have? lowering that will help slightly.

At lowest resolution possible I still get about the same fps.
