Default Guild Wars and Satellite Internet...Possible?

Alright, I recently got satellite internet because my dad HAD to have it to do his work at home. DSL and cable are not options, due to cheap internet companies who don't run it out this far. So it was either 56k or satellite, naturally my dad's company chose satellite, HughesNet to be more specific. I have been playing Guild Wars for almost a year now on dialup, and as frustrating as it was, it was still playable. I've looked at numerous reports on satellite internet and online gaming, and they all seem to say that Guild Wars is still playable. However, I have a constant ping of 1,500 to 2,000+ms, which you all probably know is unplayable. What I want to know is, does anyone play Guild Wars on satellite internet while it is enjoyable, with say, a lower ping? And if so, what did you do to make it playable? Any info you can give me is help, because as of now I'm just out of luck. Thanks.

And also, please don't just say "HAHA ur a n00b get better internet then mebbe u b able 2 play teh guild wars!!!111one" because I simply have no choice. Thanks again.

I play on satellite internet. I had the same situation. I actually prefer satellite to dialup.

play for a while, you get used to it.

But, is this only one time you have tested it? Because it is understandable on an overcast/stormy day because a satellite depents on being able to see the sky. From my understanding of satellite, it is really quite fast, but the ping is across the board, from 10 - 1000, much less stable then a wired connection. I know people who use satellite internet for everquest, and they have few problems.

I played Guild Wars for nearly 2 years over DirecWay/HughesNet Satellite.

My average ping was 1400 to 2200 ms.

Late at night my latency would drop to 800-900 ms, I felt godlike! Actually, it did seem great, it's all relative.

I still found the game playable, but I didn't have any previous experience in Guild Wars using a faster connection, so that helped a lot.

I also played WoW during that same period of time, got 4 characters to 60, etc.

Obviously, your PvP will suffer due to the high latency.

1000ms to 2000ms pings with satellite are pretty common connection speeds for the medium. Remember the signal is going from your home to a satellite in space, sent down to another dish at a routing center of sorts, then thrown into the wilds of the net, then PlayNC and vice versa when coming back. It's the nature of the service that connection times are bad. While it can be highspeed, it is just not made to have a low latency connection.
