you just posted the Bandini of the month right there

i guess you missed all the different dev posts stating that lost/stolen/hacked accounts cannot be replaced as the database setup will not allow something to be created and restored to someones inventory.

as Gaile stated it is impossible to spoof/change/restore something.

your word or Gailes?

easy choice there......Gaile with no competition at all
That is why they need to back up their database every few hours as Indie does to the Guru in case of a hack.

Who has confirmed that anet doesn't back up their database? I assure you that they do. Why wouldn't they?

What anet is saying about not restoring accounts is that they will not go into a backup just to restore a single account.

Also, I have a hard time believing these threads that suggest that anet mysteriously lost their account data. More likely is that the individual allowed their login and password to be exposed. Keyloggers, etc, is the most likely type of explanation, as hard as it is for the individual affected to believe.

they have a constant back up OF THE WHOLE GAME

they cannot alter just a single account out of the whole.

as for your saying people are not careless/stupid about security here is a gem from an earlier post right here

Just be careful if you play the game on a public wi fi hot spot.
you find a hot spot to use and have no idea what monitoring software or who owns the pc connection you happily hook up through.

if that is not blatently asking for it i dont know what qualifies.

Heh, I cannot believe that Anet would be so foolish to use a database that can't be altered manually. A little glitch somewhere, one single bit of corrupt information, and you'd have to roll back the whole damn thing. No coder who has ever worked with databases would use such a system.

There is a difference in "cannot because it is technically impossible" and "cannot because we are not allowed to by company laws". I do believe that the latter is the case here, my reasons are stated above. Yes, it would be technically possible for Anet to do with their database whatever they wanted, yes, also spawning items in players inventories. However, at what expense of time and effort, I do not know. And I understand very well why they chose not to do it, as a general rule.
