a few questions/things to do

how old is your computer
make sure there isnt a dust build up(could be overheating and locking up due to that), though seems unlikely as its comeing back
what anti virus and anti spyware are you running

after answering those i will have more questions

Im not the only one! That makes me happy!! I have the same problem, and I think the problem is the videocard, at least that's my problem, because I'm running a Windows Vista PC, Vista needs a good card. I'm currently using NVIDIA 6150, and my specs are 2 gb RAM, AMD Athlon X2 2.4. If you find a solution tell me, good luck!

I'm actually getting a freeze-up that doesn't self-correct. It started since upgrading my stuff (i kept the case, fans and soundcard but all the rest is new). This only happens in GW...I know there was a problem with another game and dual core cpu's but I got the AMD update for that and I haven't had that problem since...GW still freezes on me.

Voltar, have you defragged your GW.dat file? Theres a program called Contig(I think thats it) someone post the link, Im playing GW now, and dont have time to look it up. It may also be that one or more of the drivers is causing the problem. What equipment did you have before the upgrade, and what do you have now? Maybe in a list?

I hope the op doesnt mind If I add something to this thread, but Id rather not start a new one if we are discussing this problem here.

I could have written exactly what Voltar wrote in the above quote.
My pc is one year old and does not lock up while using any other program. Even while using multiple programs and watching a streaming video etc.
It just locks up while using GW. This used to occur when I had my previous pc which was very old but has not happened until bery recently. As a matter of fact it started after a very large update several weeks back.

While logged into GW at any time the game (and the whole pc) will freeze completely. No combinations of commands will do athing. All I can do is reboot the pc. The latest occurance was just last night. Just about 30 seconds after logging in, *freeze* and reboot needed. All research I've done at the GW supprt area trys to tell me that this is a problem with my pc communicating with the game's servers. That may be exactly what is happening, but I do not believe its on my end.

I guess I'm not really asking a question here, merely adding to the topic that there is a problem and it needs to be addressed.

Using contig or any other sort of defragmentation will _not_ help with crashes unless there's something seriously wrong with the operating system or the hard drive's broken, and if either is messed up that badly you'd be lucky to get even Windows started. Defragging just optimizes the file system, but it should work 100% correctly (if a little slower) no matter how fragmented it is.

That said, a faulty hard drive could indeed make the computer pause and crash randomly - Windows may hang for a moment if the game asks it to read something from the hard drive and the hard drive doesn't respond to the operating system's request as expected. You might want to look for any logged file system errors in the Event Log, found under the Control Panel's Administrative Tools folder.

Don't know if this will help but are you using vista?

On Friday Microsoft just posted a hotfix for gaming crashes under vista - had something to do with address space.

For more details check out the maximum pc website.
