Default 6 Fps

O.K, so my computer has a 2.8ghz processor, 756mb of ram and a 65mb chared memmory onboard intel extreem video card. Anyway, I've been getting usualy 6-9 FPS on average. I know my video card completly stinks, but It'll have to do for now. So is there anyway to maybe get a couple for FPS? I also have an Nvidea Ge Force 2 100 with 32mb
LoL, this really stinks, I've even went down to 2 FPS for a minute

Thanks,

Unfortunately you have two options: Either get better video hardware, or drop graphic detail and resolution until it looks like a Playstation game.

Your CPU and RAM, while enough for Guild Wars, aren't able to render 3D video and output it to your monitor. Thus it's forced to rely on whatever video hardware you've got, and creates a bottleneck.

By video hardware you mean a graphics card, right? I plan on it as soon as I can, I just wanted to know if there was something I could do in the meantime. What kind of specifications would you think I'd need for a video card. Do you think I could achive 50 FPS with a good video card?

Nothing you can do short of dropping quality in the meantime. As for a good card, check out this thread:

Well, yeah. I used the term hardware because its not always on a "card" form factor, for instance you don't even have a video "card" right now, its just a few parts soldered onto the motherboard. Sorry hehe, Just being technical.

If you're simply looking to make the game playable, exact specifications aren't a huge concern I suppose, though you will need to know what type of interface you have to plug a video card into: PCI, AGP, or PCI-X. If your computer or motherboard came with a manual that info would certainly be somewhere in there. Guild Wars doesn't need a supercomputer to run it, I would think as long as you got something with at least 128MB of video RAM you'll be all set.

I know my computer has an AGP and PCI slot. This is one of the cards I'm considering:

What do you think?

Ooh, could this be the one?

But it doesn't have a fan, will that be a big problem?

The two you linked won't run any game very well. There are better AGP video cards available for about $75, like this:

Oh Idont know about that! Unless by "well", you mean full eye candy, with high resoultion. I have a x1300, does MUCH better than my 128MB FX5900 I used to use. I think some of that is because its 512MB. Cost me $1`50 at Best Buy(got it this January).

Another thing to consider is that my power supply is probably horrible (it's an emachine, what do you expect?), so I don't want anything that'll need to much power.

Dont guess with your power supply, take it out and have a look. I run my X800GTO with a 300W (celeron 2ghz cpu).

As for a quick fix to get better FPS?

Set res to 1024x768, move graphics slider to minimum. Turn off "wait for V Sync", "Post Process Effects" if you had them on. Avoid #1 dist main towns
Failing that you're gonna have to put it on 800x600 res.

Did all that before I posted this (except I can't stand 800x600 so i refuse to use it). Thankfully i found this and now I average 8-14 FPS, w00t! O.K, still bad but it's an improvment

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -noshaders

the -noshaders switch added to your GW shortcut (see above) might help you squeeze out a few more Fps

Hmm normally I'd say don't buy a videocard, upgrading you RAM will do. But since you've already got RAM and playing an onboard card is just plain bad, I'd suggest getting a midrange card for 50-75€.

But this is something I've needed for a long time, ever since my computer had a hard time playing Knights of The Old Republic. LOL
