Default need help with comp

I currently have an eMachines T3265 comp with AMD athlon(tm) XP 3200+
2.20 GHz,448 MB of RAM and it crashes frequently. Its about 4 years old an I'm looking to upgrade to a better computer. I would get it repaired but i fear it would be a waste of time and money. I don't know much about computers and I'm looking for help on getting a new one. I'm on a budget so id like the best for my money. I'm looking for a computer that will run Guild Wars cleanly without much lag. I will also be using it for common stuff and i will be sharing it with my family. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you. I'm looking for something under $500.
