Default Unable to Initialize 3d Ouput Error Msg

Than continues to say to update video driver & install directx - Just bought a hp pavilion laptop - updated all drivers & have the latest version of directx fresh from microsoft. Game installed fine, up to point of play getting this error message - Adjusted setting in my new OS vista, to run as admin & set compatibility to windows xp2 mode. Thinking this might be my video card? - Have only a standard vga graphics adapter (Nvidia 64mb) - Any suggestions that could help would be... umm helpful? Any other hp7000 users have a suggestion for a graphics card or resolution for this error. Thanks in advance.

It's likely a driver problem, but HP's site lists at least 117 different HP Pavilion 7000 series laptop models. Posting more detailed specs than "Nvidia 64mb" could help.

Ok, so your video card's a GeForce4 440 Go. It's the laptop equivalent of the GeForce4 MX, which despite the name (probably created by the marketing department) has basically the same feature set as a GeForce 2, and just barely meets the game's minimum requirements.

Try getting the video drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Make sure you uninstall the current video driver(s) completely before installing new ones, and read the FAQs at the site to determine which driver versions are best for that old video card; it's usually not the latest since support for old stuff tends to break when they quickly hack in features for newer hardware. Version 44.68 seems to be considered optimal for a GF4 440 Go.

Thanks for the info, checked out the FAQs & pages, for about an hour, wow - may have to wait for weekend to actually know & try something - wondering if this computer is worth the $500 i'm fixing to pay for now - just wanted to have fun with one of my favorite games, everything else has been fine. Thank you sir - will let you know of results...

Thank you (lordpwn) - you were right about it being a driver issue - after much reading & searching I finally came across a person with the same issue as me & without you I would not have known to search for a driver problem.
