Default Trouble with Pri Master Hard Disk:SMART

A few days ago I tried to turn on my computer and got the blue screen of death for the first time in over 4 years. I shut off my computer, and turned it back on a few minutes later only to have an additional problem; Upon startup, I receive the message: Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace. I've been reading up on this a little and found out that you can disable the S.M.A.R.T. settings by going into the system BIOS. I effectively disabled the settings but my computer will still not turn on. Has my hard drive moved on to better places? Or is he still here and just in need of a little help?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Usually a bad block indicates him on his way to the better place in the sky, you may be able to salvage some data off in between the blue screen errors, but theres not much you can do. Your best off just giving in and starting new with a replacement.

Yea, usually when you get hard drive errors like that, then it's going to die soon. You're best off trying to grab data asap off that HDD if possible, and then buy a new one. I would personally hook it up as a secondary to another computer (if available) and move data off.

I agree with TEB Elite... and in many cases, bad sectors will only increase over time.
