Default So messed up i don't even know what to call it..

Alright, so I'll be playing guild wars for an hour and a half or so. Nothing big. All of a sudden, my guild wars will basically take a picture and freeze. I will see that image, I can still move around, activate skills, attack and even type, but I cannot see what's going on. Even when I double click, the cursor goes away as it should. But I STILL CANNOT SEE WHAT'S GOING ON CAPS LOCK. This has been happening for about 8 months now, and now it happens almost every time i turn on guild wars. My old remedy was to restart my computer before i started playing, but even that is ineffectual.

computer specs:
1 gig ram
nvidia 7800 GS agp (256 mb)
2.8 GHZ p4 cpu

I've defragmented, scanned for viruses and all that good jazz, but nothing is really working. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You have an Nvidia 7xxx series video card. That pretty much covers it. Mine does that too (7900GT, been RMA'ed once already), but not as fast as yours (usually takes several hours nonstop). More than likely there's a dead spot in your RAM or it's overheating. Try taking the side panel off the case and see if it "lasts" longer. If so, it's a heat issue. If it's bad video RAM, I hope you're still in warranty...

Nvidia had very serious quality problems with the 7xxx series. You are not the first by far to have these kind of problems.

*agree* with previous poster.
Also, while you have that puppy open - use a can of air or a vac on blow (not suck) and give it a good cleaning. Carefull of static and be sure to unplug the unit first.

I have the 7800 GS as well (AGP too) and I get random lockups that I didnt get before with my geforce3 LOL. But they are very random (and far enough in between that its not driving me to investigate), I just end task and reconnect and its fine.

I was running in DX8 with no lockups though, have you tried that.

Although what you are describing is just very weird.

It could be a driver bug since it seems to be happening on a lot of GeForce 7 cards, most of which work just fine in every other game. Either GW:EN does something the driver can't handle nicely or some recent driver update by Nvidia broke something that worked before. Has anyone tried older Nvidia drivers?

Yep, I tried running 93.71's and 94.24's on my 7900GS and it still crashed, the freezing with looping sound crash! Am back on the 162.18's now.

You're right though, it's definitely something that EotN added to the game as Guild Wars is the only thing on my system that crashes, and that's only occurred since EotN was added.
