do you have dial-up or highspeed, and how long have you waited to let it login?

Most likely a router issue (I've never seen this problem when using dial-up). Try turning off your router, restart the computer (also try clearing your temporary files & cookies via internet options), then turn the router back on.

Also go to your command prompt and reset your IP. I find that often helps.
enter command prompt and type the following, hitting enter after each one.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Give it a minute then try entering the game again.

The above almost always helps me when my connection randomly cuts out once in a while and doesn't let me reconnect.

I uninstalled and installed it again. Worked for me as I had the exact same problem as you for a while.

I have the same result problem - but what is causing it, I have no idea.

My ADSL line was installed earlier this week, and today the Netgear DG834G modem/router was installed and the two PCs connected etc. Both PCs are hard wired to the router. Both PCs have fine internet access, and the other PC loads up GW fine - But My PC just hangs at the "connecting..." screen.

The Netgear online "help" didn't "help", their forums have nothing about this specific problem, the port forwarding didn't solve it, renewing the DNS cache (mentioned above) didn't help, I disabled the firewalls AV etc etc on my PC even the router firewall and that didn't help. I removed and re-installed GW, that didn't help.

This is not a specific problem with the modem/router as the other PC connects fine to GW. There must be a setting somewhere on my PC that is not correct.

I would appreciate any advice suggestions anyone may have.

Thanks
Friday

My BF is having the same problem, he has had to uninstall and reinstall twice now when GW has a new build. He has no problem connecting to the internet or any other program. GW just hangs at the log in screen.

Any advice or solutions would be appreciated.

Sounds like a port issue. Confirm that your ports are opened. Don't just forward specific ports, forward a range of 5-10 of them. Call your ISP and confirm your ports are not being restricted. I originally had the same issue, but my ISP granted me an inside/outside static IP with all ports unlocked.

Obviously that guy hasnt been playin gw. LOL
Anyway, you might want to check your firewall. Firewalls can block access. Either that or its an issue with router ports.
You could get a really BIG hammer and find this guy and make him fix your stuff!

Rajah:

It's not my ISP - The access account I have with them is a gaming specific access account, unshaped, uncapped, the gaming ports required are all open and work fine on their side. I know this because the other PC on this connection plays GW fine. Plus, when I signed up they wanted to know which online games we wanted access to so that they could make sure there were no problems.

It's not the router/modem - for the same reason. The other PC plays it fine.

I assigned static IPs for both PCs and set the port forwarding for the two ports GW uses, and that did not help either. Yes, I assigned a small range each way of 80 and 6112.

It's also not specifically my general PC settings as I can play GW fine on my old dial-up connection.

BabyJ:

It is not the firewall settings of the router/modem - because the other PC plays GW fine.

It's not my PC's firewall settings either - GW works fine when I use my dial-up connection.

I have also tried disabling the firewalls on the router and on my PC (including all the anti-virus stuff) just to see if that was it - and it still does not work.

I think:
There is something in the networking settings which I am not finding.... and what I know about networking is dangerous.... tho I am learning stuff fast now that I am trying to find the problem myself. lol. I didn't know anything about configuring routers etc before this hehe.

If anyone has any ideas where in the network settings I might look - please, I would greatly appreciate the help.

And yes, BabyJ, I used the Mighty Hammer Of Firing on the guys who installed the router, as they did not belong to the right Faction... it's called "Customer Service League" - they installed new hardware for a customer and did not make everything work the way they were paid to make it work....
