Do any other discs work in the drive? Have you tried the disc in some other computer to see if there's something wrong with the disc itself?

You don't exactly need the game disc to install and play the game - just the access key. If you can't get the disc to work download the game client from the Guild Wars official site and run it - if you haven't run the game before it'll ask you where to install the game and download common game files from ArenaNet's servers before starting, and then download the rest as needed.

If this causes long loading times, you can force the client to download every file in the game by running the client with the command line argument '-image' (w/o quotes), though that's likely to take a few hours - the full data file's size is over 3.5 gigabytes.

It sounds like a dead CD-ROM, or perhaps the Factions disc is a DVD (I don't remember...) and your drive can't read DVD-ROM discs? Either way, I'd just download the client software from guildwars.com.

And just to save you some time, there's several campaigns for Guild Wars (Factions being one of them), but they all use the same client-side software. You'll never need to install anything ever again, only add access keys. That may save you some confusion in the future.
