Default Bad Lag IN GW but not in other programs

I have recently been playing GW and i used to get normal pings in the green range- under 100. But now evry time i try to play the game it gets really stuttery and the ping bounces around to 5000 then back to 200 tthen around to 2000 and somtimes i just get disconnected. Now i tried using other games and programs with internet connection and they all seem to work just fine.
I can surf the internet just fine. and i get constant pings of 40 when i play Counter Strike and the like. I tried doing the defragment thing on my .dat file but it only had 35 frags and that didnt inmprove the problem when i defragged it. so really not sure what the problem is-

2.6 Ghz Intel 4
1 gig ram

The same is happening to me, I tried all I could to try to find the cause of my herratic latency to no avail, I'm still having extreme lag!

My only hope is that churning ISP to a better and known one will fix my problem.

I'm still waiting for an answer to my application to Internode broadband.

PS. By the way I live in Australia.

Welcme to the other problem that the inept monkeys at support refuse to admit exists! Severe lag and the game crashing with dual-core CPU's are the biggest non-bugs ever, well according to support they are anyway!

I've had problems with awful lag in Guild Wars too. Currently its quite bad and annoying me to no end. I'm convinced its on their side of things, not mine. I've done the Contig program thing sticked at the top of this forum a few times - today it came back as a 1 so my game file isnt fragged. I've copied the game file from one location to another and back again and defragmented the drive, so its not that either. I dont have problems with lag in other applications or games, even though my computer isnt top specs for this day and age.

Frankly, GW runs great when it wants to, and poorly when it doesnt, and I cant make heads or tails of it. Only thing left it seems to me is somewhere in the routing. I've had great speeds and comfort playing, but the last couple weeks a little "sticky" every so often. Tonight is godawful. Even the music is stuttering a bit (that's confusing to me, as that I wouldnt think has anything to do with routing). Just moving around is a chore.

I'm in the US.

Sometimes these lag problems are caused by a router between you and GW. This can appear to happen only in GW, because GW is the only app you try that takes that particular route. You may find that some CS servers, if they route through the same path, may also give you problems. Very often, these issues fix themselves when someone replaces/repairs the faulty router - sometimes this happens coincidently with the user making some change, so he thinks he's fixed it.

For a long time I thought GW had a bug which was causing GW to randomly lock-up (my cpu is a dual core.) It only happened in GW, not in other games (but TFC is the only other one I've played lately). But then, just a few days ago, it locked up the same sort of way (with a repeating sound bite) while I was watching a video (divx) on the desktop. Now, I just don't know - I've updated to the latest sound and video drivers. Next I guess is a BIOS update.

Since GW:EN came out lag has been getting worse, Constant 250+ ping and every now and again the odd 40K + spike. Already switched ISP and upgraded speed. Only difference is I haven't had a 250k+ ping spike since. Like that makes a difference

We were having problems with lag and error 7's. We changed the router and all the cords from computer to router and never had the problem again. Except for a bit of lag now and then, it's been fine.

A lot of people are having very similar--if not identical--problems with this game. Obviously it isn't going to affect every single configuration. Among those of us who don't currently have any connection problems, most have at one point or another.

I'm using a 10Mb cable connection with very little ping in any games, and usually unnoticeable ping in Guild Wars... I still get disconnected every so often complaining about an "internet routing issue." I am fairly knowledgeable about this sort of thing and I know there is no routing issue on my end.

Run this in your command prompt.

C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe -diag

When it's done you can find a file in your GW folder Called "NetworkDiag".

then send it to them knuckleheads at Tech Support and it'll show that you are getting 100% packet loss on their end.

Should show something like this if your getting packet loss in that file.

15 --- 4/ 4 =100% 2/ 4 = 50% p4-13-c0-ncla-pub.plaync.net [69.28.181.114]
0/ 4 = 0% |
16 --- 4/ 4 =100% 2/ 4 = 50% 216-107-255-70.plaync.com [216.107.255.70]
0/ 4 = 0% |
17 80ms 2/ 4 = 50% 0/ 4 = 0% 216-107-246-36.plaync.com [216.107.246.36]

The 100% and 50% refers to packet loss while connecting to their routers/servers.
They'll just say it's on your end anyway if they even bother to honor you with a reply at all.

btw I run an AMD sempron and it's not just a Dual Core problem as they say.

Router is locked, 20down 5 up connection, Don't run p2p or any other progs while playing. This a problem on their end that they refuse to acknowledge. Kinda sucks when your lvl 2 and halfway to lvl3 on your survivor title and you die because they cant take care of a simple routing issue that causes lag. If I were the only one suffering from this I'd take it as my own problem but it's CLEARLY not just my problem as you can see from above.
