Default Odd Problem - AVI files

I know its abit off topic.. but whenever i highlight a Avi file exploer crashes and reloads....."windows exp a problem blah blah blah sorry for inconveience" i cant touch any of my AVI files, nor can i import them into movie maker for a gw vid im making...

It's not that odd, every Windows XP version seems to have that "feature". It's caused by a standard Explorer extension that's supposed to integrate .avi file previews and metadata to file browser windows, but it's so badly programmed it usually crashes or hangs when it encounters something its writers didn't think of.

Try running the command "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" (no quotes) to disable the shell extension.
