The problem I encounter, seems to be some sort of memory leak.
The game freezes up, I can't Alt+tab, so I ctrl+alt+delete and open the taskmanager.
Then when I see my desktop, there is a box only saying "Out of memory", no error code.
I can't click on the "OK" button, so I shut GW down via the taskmanger, and then that box closes itself as well.
But it seems more like a Vista problem, since it doesn't happen on XP 32/64.

Hardware:
Asus A8N-E
AMD64 X2 3800+
3 GB PC3200 Corsair XMS C2 (according to Microsoft, Vista 32bit versions can handle up to 3GB physical memory)
Nvidia 8800 GTS 320MB
Creative SB X-Fi
4 Samsung SATA2 80GB in stripped raid.

Software:
Window Vista Business 32
(updated it manually with every hotfix for my system, that is not provided with the auto update)

Forceware 169.04 (not here since it happens with previous versions as well)
nForce 15.01
X-Fi Driver 2.15.0003
Creative ALchemy (X-Fi Edition)1.00.11

Anyone had this problem and found a solution?
I searched for memory on this forum, but couldn't find a working solution.

Lots of people have this problem (in XP & Vista), but I don't think a solution has been found yet.

wanna free up some memory? (if you haven't done this already)

right click---->properties---->Screen saver---->Power---->Hibernate

un-check the 'enable hibernation' box and apply.
(this is for XP)

Hibernation support in Windows reserves some hard drive space in a hidden file called hiberfil.sys and does NOT require any relevant amount of RAM (or virtual memory space, for that matter). Would be kind of silly if it did, considering how hibernation works.

My bad dude, you're totally right, that will free up disk space, not ram.

However, you prolly could kill off some processes to free up some memory.
(ctrl+alt+del)
click process tab. kill un-needed ones.

can also go to my comp>manage>services and apps to kill junk running in background.

Vista has loads of poop running that you don't really need.

I'm pretty much into Windows tweaking and stripping it down to the bare bone.
I found 1 hotfix on guru3d that makes Vista get that the graphic card has 320Mb and not 256MB.
For some reason Microsoft does not offer it as a regular hotfix download.
Plus I found some newer info about things that can be disabled via CMD.
Will see if the problem is fixed, I didn't get the error so far.

PS. Hibernation support is disabled in Vista by default.

doesn't matter what vista can handle is your pc rated for 3gig and turn it off one and a wial to reset ram

is your hard drive formatted in NTFS or FAT32
if it is FAT32 then you will most likely have the problem that your gw.dat file is more then 4GB, FAT32 cant handle files bigger then 4GB
only solution is to convert hard drive to NTFS

I searched for memory on this forum, but couldn't find a working solution.

I fixed it on my wifes system by moving her to XP Pro 64bit OS. The only background applications running are video drivers, sound drivers, anti-virus & anti-spyware. I do know that Norton AV and a few others can cause out of memory issues. But if you are going to uninstall it be sure to find something that can really uninstall it, the uninstaller leaves a lot of stuff behind.
