I've been having a lot of problems with GW lately. Usually my ping is between 400-500. (I'm on dialup) Lately, I've been notcing that my FPS keeps dropping to like 7 and under. What could be causing this? Its never done this before? My ping is usually the same 400-500 when this happens. Can anyone help me out? o.O

My comp meets the requirements and I haven't had any problems playing Guild Wars over the last two years. It just started this junk this past Friday.

Anyway...
Its a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop
Pentium M 1.5Ghz.
512mb Ram
Ati Mobility Radeon 9600

Could be overheating (either CPU or the graphic card's CPU), at least it was for me when I had the same problems you discribed.

X_X Is there any way for me tell if they're overheating? I generally try not to play more than five hours at a time as of lately. I've played longer than that before and I haven't had this problem.

At that time I couldn't find a suitable program to measure temp on my mother board/graphic card as I lost my software for my mother board. However, my bios could check the mother board temp and rate the fan was spinning. They were too high (temp) and too low (spinrate). I replaced my motherboard fan and all my problems were solved.

Maybe the people here know some nice programs to measure the temp.

Don't be shy, open the thing up and look inside! Check that all fans/heatsinks in it are reasonably free of dust and lint, and the fans are actually turning. Check also for dust/lint clogging air intakes/exhausts. Use a "Dust Off" type product (compressed "air"), or a small vacuum to clean it out, if needed.

If it's clean inside, you may just have too much network traffic somewhere between you and GW that's choking the data flow.

Hmmm...Okay..So..I don't think anything is overheating. Could it be anything else?

I've noticed that today my ping shoots up into the 1000s and the FPS drops. So it could be my damn connection afterall. *sigh*

Compressed (canned) air is your best route for cleaning your rig. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner as it generates static electriucity, which is bad news for the finer electronics inside your case.

Note your ping times at each hop. There could be a problem with high ping at your gateway, which will be reflected in all of your ping times. Try resetting your connection via hardware to see if that helps.
