Default FPS increase?

basically looking for a way to boost FPS. after i installed vista my fps went from 70-80 to low 20's if that. i turned down most of the effects and im getting mid 20's now. just wondering if theres any quick tweaks or anything out there. i already have the most recent video drivers+bios. any help would be cool, thanks

The obvious tweak for vista is to reduce the GUI settings.

There isn't. In my experience, even turning off Aero results in barely any noticeable FPS increase. This is why very, very few gamers use Vista.

yeah too bad my xp disk decided to start giving me install errors any reason why the FPS went down so much in guild wars as compared to the rest of my games? they are all about the same, gw just took a huge dive

Beats me. It just isn't optimized for Vista, or Vista isn't optimized for games... whatever the case, I personally lost anywhere from 25% to half of my framerate in all of my games when I tried Vista... even newer stuff that has full Vista support. I went back to XP x64 and suddenly I'm back at 80-120fps in GW, up from a max of 45-ish in Vista.

What kind of install errors? For "File not found" I found using a slower CD-ROM normally fixes it or you can go into the BIOS and adjust the IDE mode settings.

I didn't have problems, per se. No crashes or blue screens or other scary things. Its just always slower.. as for driver issues, I don't know where you're getting mysteriously perfect Vista drivers. I had the latest available from Nvidia and Creative, as well as all compatibility & performance updates from Microsoft as of a week or so ago.

I tried this the other day. if you turn off all the extra display things in vista, like the glass windows and shadows and whatnot, it'll go back up to 70-80. My system is the same as when I used xp on my old computer the FPS was around 60-70, with the new computer with Vista (home 64bit) it dropped to 20-30.

I reduced all the nice visual effects of Vista and it boosted the FPS back to 70. I'm a sucker for a nice UI tho so I put the Vista visual effects back on and just deal with my lower FPS @ somewhere between 20-40 (or drops to under 20 if I accidentally resize or minimise the window. requires a restart of GW to get the FPS back).
