This could be a drawback to using D3D video settings. Change to OpenGL to clear up your poor screenshot results. Since this is only a shot in the dark based on the information that you posted, post your system specs and game settings to further aid troubleshooting.

That's an issue I have with watching videos, they'll come out black if GW comes on the screen during them, so make sure you're taking in .bmp format, which is what GW defaults to. Other than that, I don't know what's up.

I'm resuscitating this thread, cuz I've got the same problem, and as the thread is a year old, someone might have come up with an answer in the meantime....

my screenshots work out perfectly for a while (I've got anti-aliasing on 4x) but then they start coming out black for some reason. this problem has resolved itself by re-starting guildwars sometimes, but it seems to get worse - intervals becoming shorter and the duration of the defect longer (this time it 'survived' a full night's power-off...)

does anyone have a solution for this?

System specs:

Acer TravelMate 4500
Intel Pentium M725 processor (1.6 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700/64MB
60GB HDD
2x 1GB DDR

:S
