Default very strange 'lag'

hi there.

i recently re-located to cyprus, and got the internet sorted.

i only have a 0.25 connection, as it is real slow + expensive out here.

when i started playing guildwars again, it was running perfectly, slightly laggy, but what do you expect with this internet speed?

anyways, ive been playing GW on this connection for about a month, no real problems.

today however, when i logged on, fmy character kept freezing, chat took ages to go through, and i kept getting re-directed to the character select page.

i managed to grab a team and enter an area, and suddenly, ALL lag was gone, chat was working perfectly and no delay on movement/skills.

as soon as the missin was completed, and i was sent to an outpost it allstarted again, and kept getting chucked to the character screen whenever i chose a character. i finally had enough time to run through a portaltoan explorable area, and again the lag was gone.

upon zoning to a outpost, it came back. i got fed up and turned of the laptop, went out and about 8 hours later nothing's changed.

whyis this happening? i have no limit on my internet, its never happened before and its not to do with my computer. if it was 'just lag' then the game wouldn't run smoothly in missions/explorable areas.

thanks

EDIT: and the internet browser is loading pages at a great speed, if that helps.

also im using a wireless router, and have reset it and rebooted it to no avail.

I can help a little....when you go into an outpost there are more people there and this causes issues with everyone using that server/instance at the same time, however; when you leave you have dropped the vast majority of others and have only those in your party with you on the instance/server.
Lots of people have problems in outposts (me included), there are just too many people there and it makes things slower.
(ok I am a layman when it comes to computer issues so I may not use the correct terminology, but I hope I make sense at least).

256k speed is fine for gw. no problem at all.

but it seems like you have the same problem like many australians have. i have the same problem but i'm not from australia.

problem always happens when you are zoning (outposts, town or explorable areas). but many times when you are not zoning too.

since you are from cyprus then this same problem. for us we guess it's a promblem at singtel node. so you might want to try to trace route to see where your packet is heading to.

Your internet provider may be throttling the bandwidth that you're using. In your contract with your ISP, see if there are any clauses about bandwidth usage or a limit on how much you can use a month and what they do if you exceed that limit.

Or someone may be stealing your wireless and using it to download HD movies from China. <- Just some ideas.
