Default Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS vs 8600

Is there a reason why my 8800 GT gives me less FPS than my 8600? I thought 8800 was better.. I can play Crysis on HIGH with 8800, but I can't even play GW on high without getting lag.

Sorry, I meant 8800 GT not GTS.

GW seems to be a funny one with the 8800 series. I have dual 8800GTX's and they run hotter with GW than they do with UT3, HL2-ep2, etc... Not figured out why yet (not that i'm really looking into it, lol. Just summut i noticed).

Go figure.

It's probably something wrong with Guild Wars, no way a 8600 could beat an 8800GT :\

and it appears that there was a release on nov 6th (163.75) non beta -I assume

if you are getting better performance with a 'lower end' card, I must ask....what is your Psu wattage rated at?

with an 8800 series running vista I've peaked well over 300/500 fps.(GW)

Hmmm, you can play Crysis on high settings with a 8800GT? Sorry, but I don't believe you! A 8800GTX Ultra can't run Crysis at high settings with a playable FPS! So a 8800GT is going to struggle if you're determined to run it at high settings!

I ran crysis on high without a hitch (via dx9, vista)...and I'm only using a 8800gts 320mb

LoL. and I'm not re-installing to prove it. I have some benchs somewhere..

/edit from demo..can't find others.

My GT runs at high with a very playable fps, not sure about the exact fps, it couldn't be less than 20 or more than 30.
No Anti-aliasing at 1280x1024 WinXP.
Going to very high settings kills but it looks so good, love the sun shafts and water detail on very high.

Don't forgot the CPU packs a good punch in Crysis too ( Physics etc. )

Beta drivers are always risky. I would try rolling back to the last usable final drivers and see what happens. I know the betas have worked with other people here, but that's why they're betas--they're smothered in bad juju.

I have a hard time believing any sane game developer would release a game that no one can play at higher than Medium graphics at the time of launch. Hell, I can play Crysis on Medium comfortably with a mere 7800 GS. If his 8800GT can't manage the next level up over my crappy system, Nvidia has some work to do.

In my experience, Nvidia's "beta" drivers are no less stable than the final versions. The differences seems to be nothing more than whether or not Microsoft has certified them yet.

Yeah, but Crysis has been develped much like Far Cry was when that was first released. You'd have been hard pressed to find a system that was capable of running Far Cry on maximum settings at a decent resolution when it first came out.

It's the same with Crysis, the developers have stated numerous times that no matter what 'current rig' you play it on they can easily bring it to it's knees. Here's a test, you try and play Crysis at the monitors native resoltion (1920x1200) on maximum settings, full FSAA, Ansiotropic and in DX10 mode using a quad core and a 8800 Ultra. Even a beast of a PC will struggle to get a smooth and playable framerate once the Icy levels appear.

QFT. If you guys were not aware of the PC I have, then sorry. But, my rig only pulls 20FPS at those settings above. Icy levels = ouch...my FPS

Regardless of Crysis,

I have an 8800 GTS 320 MB in my system (using EVGA step up program soon to boost it to an GTX ), and my FPS are 60-70 in Guild Wars (XP, DX9), on all high and 4x AA. I have no problems here, other than 4X sometimes works too much and reverses the aliasing and causing white spots (driver issue, need to get back up to current drivers as I have been testing out different stuff). (Other stats, EVGA Nforce 680i mobo, 2 gigs of ram (ddr2 800), Intel E6750 2.66 dual core)

How much RAM do you have? I find GW takes up 54% of my current RAM, and therefore, 1 Gig just doesn't cut it at high.

Next, what is your powersource? I have 650 Watts, anything less than 500 (or even higher for your card) will cut card performance incredibly. Tested and tried.

Next, heat. GW seems to push the boundaries of cards to an extent, and the GT is a very hot running card. Make sure you have proper cooling and use Nvidia Monitor to check its heat. If you are overclocking, return it to standard clocking and try again.

As for the Crysis discussion, I run at @ 30-40 FPS (except for cutscenes, which is the weirdest thing), on All High (not Very High), no AA, 1400x900. Its playable, but not in Vista lol. And it doesn't utilize SLI, which is sad.
