Default gw runs slow

ok this is a bit weird and hard to explain but i will try

ok i play gw on my pc and my wife plays on another pc via a wireless connection just about 6 feet away from the modem, now there is a bit of a problem she seem to suffer from realy bad lag.....i have checked the wireless connection it say excellent /very good,so abad connection ruled out,put in new 256 agp graphics card(still laggy) 1gb ram(still laggy) 1300 amd cpu(not the best but works) and she never had lag with this chip!!!so i was a bit miffed i even put her account details on to my machine and play one of her chars and guess what (still laggy)which i think is strange as i'm running her account on my pc also i have a hard line connection and a fairly fast pc as i can play gw with no problems what so ever

anybody got a clue what i can try

Try moving the char to a different district region and see what happens.

first thing first: what do you mean by lag? do you mean choppy framerates, or rubberbanding and slow reaction?

if it's the latter, it's your internet connection. upgrading your graphic card won't fix it. if it's the former, then go with the upgrade.

5 fps is way too suspicious...

You may need to consider looking over the hardware in that computer, back in the days of Diablo 2 when I had my much /much/ older computer, it suffered from terrible framerates and even worse average ping just because the computer was so slow, until I upgraded...

There's a chance that because the computer(s) is struggling so much to make the game run, it means that it will be struggling with almost everything else as well, including sending data over the network...

If it's more modern hardware that meets the game's requirements you should consider virus-scanning, disabling CPU hogs like Norton Anti-Virus, getting more RAM for the computer, and even formatting the drive and doing a complete re-installation of Windows.

As far as your internet connection goes, it doesn't matter, many things can play a roll in lag, even with a very powerful/fast internet connection...

- You could have really bad upload speeds and therefore doing anything else anywhere else on that connection could cause severe lag.
- Your network could be running on 10Base-T instead of 100 or 1000 which are a lot faster and far more reliable.
- Your service naturally has very bad ping with games or anything besides browsing the web and downloading files.
- Your service could be (although unlikely) be getting shared with other users, you say you have wireless, but are you sure nobody besides you has been using it? Is your wireless access point properly secured/encrypted?
- Wireless itself is relatively unreliable for gaming, 6 feet away or not, you can still get interference! While most WiFi networks run at about 54Mbit speeds, they vary depending on signal strength/reliability.

Maybe some of this will help? Always a good idea to try anything you can think of
