good morning everyone. i recently had to purchase a new computer, and money was a little tight, so i got a fairly cheap one. it has an amd athlon 64 x2 with both cores operating at 2ghz, only 1 gig of ram(should be getting another stick sometime this year) and the nvidia 6100 on board chipset. i installed a 256mb nvidia fx 5500 that's oc by a little bit in my old computer. my question is, would it be worth the time to put that old video card in my new computer? i don't know much about the newer on board graphics processors, but i do seem to notice much more video lag on my new computer then on my old one. my old one has a single core athlon (running at alittle over 2ghz), 512mb of ram, and that fx5500.

5500/6100 are very crappy vga. Buy new one like Nvidia 8600gts or 8800gt.

I got as an interim card a 8400GS which plays Guild wars really smothly on my pc and it was only about £30

onboard vid and sound cards while playing guildwars loads the cpu to the max. the onboard cards use the ram and the cpu to process these tasks.

pci express(i like x16) vid card and a pci sound card =

but upgrading to a new screaming video card USUALLY means getting a bigger power supply, over a stock psu.

PS. the new nvidia cards are due to come out later this year. If you hold off till then the "older" cards will drop in price.

thanks for the advice everyoen, but i was talking more along the lines of just reusing my old video card for the time being and weather or not it's going to be worth the effort of installing the thing. i'm planning on getting a new vid card later on in the year, but i'm getting another ram stick first. i thought perhaps i could just reuse what i have until i can buy a new one.
