Default widescreen monitors?

this is a stupid question but... are widescreen monitors supported with Guild Wars? I have no clue about widescreen and I dont want my game to stretch.

help.

Absolutely! I'm running GW on at [email protected] on my XPS laptop no problem No, you won't get any distortion so long as you have the correct monitor drivers loaded.

I haven't had any problems at all running any other games. I've never noticed any distortion, or stretched images. If you do come across a game that is stretched for whatever reason, you can always just put it into windowed mode.

And as for the OP, Not only does widescreen work well with Guild Wars, I highly highly recommend widescreen. It allows you to see more of what's going on in the heat of battle. It's not fun being a caster when you get a warrior on your backside that you didn't know was there. I'm using widescreen now, and now that I have, I can never go back.

I'm not sure if this is a proper follow-up or addition, but here goes:

One thing I've always looked for w/ widescreen displays is to have the game treat the widescreen as the standard resolution of the same height, but w/ extra room on the left and right. Instead, games seem to treat it like the resolution of the same width, w/ some room taken away on the top and bottom. Essentially, playing GW on my 17" laptop's 1280 & 880 display gives me less room than on my desktop's 1280 x 1024 display. I was hoping it would treat the 1280 x 880 as a wider version of a 1174 x 880 display instead...

Regardless, in addition to what's built into the game, most laptop video drivers will support a scale/center/crop function above and beyond what the program may or may not allow...

Yes, widescreen monitors are supported in GW. I'm running 1680x1050 atm.

No, it wouldn't apply to every game. It would apply to almost all new games, though. And, some older games have been updated.

2560x1600 works fine! I guess it just depends on your graphics card and monitor!

You can pretty much get Cracks for every PC game now to make them any resolution you want, and you can just edit the game files to change it as well.

Just note that even if you get an old game to use a widescreen resolution, it may still assume the monitor's aspect ratio is 4:3 and keep using projection matrix meant for that, resulting in a stretched image. This could be fixed simply by assuming the pixels are perfect squares and calculating the monitor's aspect from the resolution, but most games didn't do that a few years ago.

Guild Wars seems to support widescreen just fine, though it looks like the game cuts off a little from the top and bottom of the image. Not really a problem except in some dungeons where it's hard to find a good position for the camera.

Guild Wars on a wide-screen monitor cuts off a little from the top and bottom, and adds a little on the sides. A screenshot from widescreengamingforum.com:

Having switched to widescreen, it is soo much better. And that goes for all games. Guild Wars for one looks beautiful in 1680x1050 on my 22inch monitor. A few games don't have support for this res, really old ones like some RTS's and such, but there are ways around it, just google.

I love widescreen.
