Default Vent Delay

Dear Technicians,

Although this isn't a major problem, it's kind of annoying.

Here's the problem : First, I get on vent and join the server I need to join. As soon as I join, I log onto Guild Wars and go play on a character. Usually, I have no delay at all, unless someone's downloading something. But when I turn on vent, I get delay. An example is when I'm trying to adjust my view with the right click, I have some delay and it takes a second or two to move it. This also happens while playing so it kind of gets ony my nerves. I'd really like to fix this problem cause if I start GvG/HA, nobody would really like people with delay.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like you don't have enough bandwidth to handle both GW and Ventrilo.

Most of the commercial Ventrilo servers default to a very high quality, but high bandwidth, compression setting. You can usually put in a support ticket to get them to change the setting. You don't want the highest compression cause it sounds bad, but something a few steps more than what you have now should be fine.
Look into the various compressions and see which one(s) work best for you. Start up Ventrilo and connect to your server. Click on Setup and go to the "voice" tab (it should default to that tab anyway). Check near the bottom where it says "test with" and it should display the Codec and Format being used by the server. It will also show you the Bytes/bits per second beside the Bandwidth: tag.
To try out other settings, just disconnect from the server and go back to the setup page. You can use the drop down menus in Codec and Format to test various settings to see which ones sound good enough at the lowest Bytes. (I use Speex 16Khz, 16bit, 5 Qlty)
