Hi, I'm having FPS problems, heres a comparison of waht im experiencing

PC- One

Motherboard ASUS P52VM-800

140 gb Hard drive
1 gig of DDR ram
Geforce 6200 256mb
Pentium 4 3.0ghz (w/hyperthreading)

all my drivers are updated...all my settings are right but my max FPS is like 20 when it peaks BUT

PC - Two

(Dell Computer)

Not sure about the motherboard
140 gb Hard drive
1 gig Of DDR Ram
Ati Radeon x300 128 mb
Pentium 4 3.0(ghz hyper threading)
on this machine im peaking 40 FPS+ whats going on here?

The graphics card isn't the only place that you get bottlenecks and degraded performance. Here's a test. Swap over the graphic cards. If you get better frame rates changing then it's just the card. If the results are the same regardless of the cards then your getting a bottleneck somewhere else.

I have an older setup with a reasonably fast card but getting terrible lag in towns when looking around simply because the rest of the machine can't cope with the data transferring around. Try it out.

well the geforce is new and the other pc is my work PC lol

The GeForce 6200 isn't any "higher end" than a Radeon X300, both are low-end cards barely adequate for rendering glassy window borders and high res video. Both at once may be pushing it.

I couldn't Google up any decent gaming benchmarks of both cards, though that's hardly surprising given what they're meant for. Looking at the specs on Wikipedia alone it definitely looks like the Radeon X300 is a bit faster; while they're mostly tied where raw pixel output is concerned, the Radeon X300 has twice the internal memory bus width (128-bit compared to the GeForce 6200's 64-bit), which often marks a higher performance card.

its not the quality of the graphics card...
its the bad optimizing of guild wars to almost all new age cards....
u kinda just got to live with it

im running a HD 2900XT... and i get 10fps when i run into 5 sandstorms at once but all i have to do to fix it is run away from them lol

But other wise in the game i got 150fps and up

i suppose, i mean its still faster than my geforce 5200 fx... lol i mean guild wars doesnt need ot have 100 FPS for me anyway, but even when i did a stress test in steam for counter-strike source, my fps were a mere 30 something, idk maybe ill check my motherboard drivers, i may have not installed them on my last format

It could, of course, come down to a difference in graphics settings.

i usually use the detect settings lol, not sure if thats bad, and i always adjust my resolution to my monitors settings of 75 hertz

See that's strange because I have a 2900 in a core 2 duo late model machine and i haven't seen a slowdown anywhere yet.

im running intel duo E6600 over clocked to 3.2ghz
and i used to get slowdowns quite often but there becoming less and less frequent. it really just depends on where u test it and what setting u have running.

Be sure your card actually has onboard memory and what kind it is.

I say that because when buying a new card recently I came accross 2 points.

Some nvidia xcards had something called hypercache "think thats correct" what it did was use system memory.
Although marked as a 128 meg card it had 64 meg of onboard memory and used system to top it up.
On a 1 gig system that could be devestating.

The other point was that some cards used slower memory chips than other more high spec cards.
There were a few 256 meg cards using standars ddr memory chips being outperformed by 128 meg cards with faster memory.

Just what I read, im no expert.
