Question Good PCI Video Card?

Anyone have any suggestions for a decent PCI video card to run Guild Wars? I have a friend who has an older computer (basic Pentium 4) that doesn't have PCI-E or a workable AGP slot (too compact to fit anything in her case setup). Her current so-called video card randomly makes the screen turn into Commodore 64 colors so she's desperate for an affordable upgrade that can run GW better than that.

We were looking at the GeForce 6200 or FX series. Would they be ok?

Thats exactly the case for me too, i wanted to get a new card because of the "Intel Graphics Controller" and it sucked, so i switched to a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 and my graphics are doing great now- i can get up to about 50 fps in game, which is alot better than my previous maximum of 22

the geforce 6200 PCI is generally the better buy. alternatively, you can look into the radeon X1300 PCI or X1550 PCI. the last two are essentially the same, except the X1550 PCI is clocked higher.

keep in mind though, the PCI bus really limits the performance gain.

Good grief - I wasn't aware they still made PCI graphics cards. AGPs are thin on the ground as it is.

Well, I think as a rule of thumb PCI cards are more popular than AGP cards because as it seems some pre-built computers don't have a PCI-E lane, and in older ones an AGP.

I think that some computers today are still even made without them, mind you very budget PC's which have mobo features cut down to save the money. It makes PCI cards somewhat of a desire since it is very very universal.

Sounds good, it will definitely run Guild Wars fine, just mind you not at max settings with super good frames.

Hope you/they are happy with the buy.

I am one of those unfortunate people stuck with the PCI-only mobo. Could not stand integrated video, so I switched to a Radeon 9200se 128MB, which was crap. Then I saw newegg (a long time ago) with the 3DFuzions (BFG owned) GeForce 6200 128 pci for 29.99, and have been pleased with it. There are better of course, such as the Radeon x1300/x1550 or the HD2400.
