Generally speaking, nVidia based cards are better for gaming. ATI based cards are better if you want to do other graphic based things besides play games, such as watch DVDs, edit videos/pictures, etc.

Ok I'm about to order the PC and I still can't decide on which card, but I think I'll go for the 4870. Someone recommended I get a Quad Core E9300 at 2.5 ghz over the E8400 at 3 ghz.

Well I finally ordered it.

- Core 2 Duo E8400
- Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
- 4 GB Corsair Dominator
- 500 GB HDD
- HD 4870
- 600W silent power supply (with 120mm fan)
- Black and silver Conqueror case (x2 80mm fans and a 120mm fan)


Total cost including VAT and delivery: £809

you can almost build that system for ~$850 USD, so the OP is actually paying quite a bit of extra $$$ (or £££ in this case).

Actually, it's the joys of living in high-tax Britain. Things have improved somewhat over recent years, but it used to be the case with technology that if it cost $200 in the States, it cost £200 in Britain.
