Default GW file size . . .

So, I am going to be getting an Asus 901 soon. 1 Gb RAM, 20 GB solid state drive, 1.6 Ghz . . . I know that it will be able to run GW just fine, and it is the only game I intend to play on it. I am planning on partitioning the HD in order to run XP for GW, and Linux for everything else. I think it would be easiest on the system and keep space free to run the game off of an external hard drive or flash drive, so I was just wondering about how large of one I should get. I mostly will end up playing on my desktop . . . this Asus would be what I bring around with me as I need a light, functioning computer for grad school, and I would like the option of playing then too :-) How big would be big enough?

Well, GW will be over 3 GB if you have all the campaigns installed. So you need at least 4 GB free space. Remember that windows handles the best with at least 10-15% free HD space and personally I try to keep it at 20% free to be safe.

( I've never seen anyone running GW off of a flash drive, although it does work with an external hd (done it myself before).....)

the asus EEE pc might be able to run GW on lowest posible setting since it has a intel GMA950 graphic chip wich is not the best.

you might consider using a external HD for it.

i suggest you NOT run GW on one of those "netbooks", since they tend to have very poor cooling and can literally burn itself into an expensive clipboard.

not to mention, they have poor processors, which definately won't help.

An external hard drive is probably a better idea . . . I would be glad of the extra space anyways. Actually the Asus has great cooling, since it doesn't have a conventional hard drive. The solid state drive has no moving parts and runs very cool (for a computer). I have had no problem running GW on laptops with specs nowhere near the Asus 901 . . . and I don't really mind low settings, since this would be a gaming on the go sort of thing, rather than my main gaming computer, which is and always will be a desktop :-)

You shouldnt need to partition/dual boot the HD just for GW. GW runs pretty well in WINE

Really? That's good to hear, I thought the only way to do it was through Cedega, which I don't want to pay for. Any links to a good guide to getting GW running through Wine?

[edit]

Nevermind I think I found one on this site :-)

That is true, I know a few people on my friends list (ingame) that run GW on Linux, with Wine. I think there was a thread here on that topic at one point.....

you will invariably get lower performance running GW in wine though. with the hardware you're getting, it will simply be unplayable.
