Default New Desktop

hello all, im not still sure i could get the money for this but im thinking about it, i want to build the best gaming(general not GW specific) desktop possible and i would need everything including an OS, dont need mouse or anything like that. somewhere around $500 is the goal. i know you wont get an uber comp for that but something say able to run oblivion/CoD 4/WaW in medium or so settings. also a pre-built system is fine as well, if it would be better deal than a custom built one.

On the run at the moment, so I can't quote prices etc... right now... but the thread that Jumping posted is a good starting point.

Don't even think going prebuilt - if you are confident that you can assemble your own system that that is FOR CERTAIN the best way to go... you & your wallet will thank you for it. You should be able to assemble a system capable of handling Oblivion and Co4 on high settings for that price (assuming you don't need a monitor etc... as well).

While I agree that it is always the "best" overall way to go about things (building your own), I wouldn't necessarily say its always the cheapest.

Its much better though because build-your-own parts almost always have more tweaking/upgrading options than a pre-built machine.

I would say a good minimum spec that will handle GW1 at full graphics and also should handle GW2 would be:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo/Athlon 64 X2
RAM: 2GB DDR2 @ appropriate speed for the processor chosen
GPU: nVidia 9600GT or ATI Radeon HD4670
HDD: any - doesn't improve gaming (maybe with load times just a tiny bit)

Check out Newegg.com for their early Black Friday sale... it starts tomorrow and there are some really good deals there.

What Maverick said.

with the added:
GPU - stay away from "integrated graphics" if at all possible.

You could start with something like this:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...=A455-2810%20L
and add a hard drive and video card.
